Job Description Summary

We are seeking an experienced and technically competent Project Engineer to support the execution of marine electrical power, propulsion, and automation commissioning activities for naval and commercial marine projects.
The successful candidate will provide continuous onsite technical and engineering support, coordinate with overseas Field Service Engineers (FSEs), and ensure effective execution of commissioning activities in accordance with project schedules, quality standards, and customer requirements.
The role will involve close coordination with project management, customers, shipyards, engineering teams, and equipment suppliers to resolve technical issues, maintain commissioning progress, and facilitate knowledge transfer between engineering teams.
The Project Engineer will also play a key role in capturing lessons learned and supporting commissioning activities across current and subsequent vessels

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Commissioning Execution: Coordinate and support pre-commissioning, equipment inspections, functional testing, system integration, Harbour Acceptance Tests (HAT), and Sea Acceptance Trials (SAT) for marine electrical power, propulsion, and automation systems.
  • Power Systems Commissioning: Provide technical support for medium-voltage and low-voltage switchboards, generators, Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVR), protection relays, transformers, battery chargers, and associated electrical equipment.
  • Automation & Propulsion Systems: Support commissioning and troubleshooting of Power Management Systems (PMS), Propulsion Control Systems (PCS), propulsion drives, motors, PLC-based automation, and industrial control networks.
  • FSE Coordination: Coordinate daily activities of overseas FSEs, facilitate technical handovers during resource rotations, and ensure continuity of commissioning activities.
  • Project Planning & Execution: Work closely with the Project Manager to monitor commissioning progress, prepare short-term look-ahead schedules, identify potential delays, and support timely achievement of project milestones.
  • Workfront Readiness: Coordinate with shipyards, customers, and suppliers to ensure equipment installation, site accessibility, safety requirements, and other prerequisites are completed before commissioning.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Investigate technical issues, coordinate with OEMs and engineering teams, implement corrective actions, and support system performance verification.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain commissioning records, test reports, punch lists, technical issue registers, progress reports, and engineering documentation.
  • Lessons Learned & Knowledge Transfer: Capture technical issues, troubleshooting solutions, and lessons learned to facilitate knowledge transfer to incoming FSEs and subsequent vessel commissioning teams.
  • Customer & Supplier Coordination: Act as the onsite technical coordination point for routine commissioning matters, supporting customer meetings, inspections, technical discussions, and supplier interfaces under the direction of the Project Manager.
  • Quality & Safety Compliance: Ensure commissioning activities comply with approved procedures, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Risk Assessments (RA), Method Statements, Permit-to-Work (PTW) requirements, and applicable shipyard safety regulations.
  • Project Close-Out: Support commissioning dossier preparation, punch-list closure, system handover, and final project documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, Marine Engineering, Automation, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in marine electrical power systems, industrial automation, power conversion, or commissioning.
  • Hands-on experience in electrical equipment testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and system integration.
  • Good technical knowledge of medium-voltage and low-voltage switchboards, generators, AVR, protection relays, transformers, and electrical power distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with marine propulsion drives, motors, Power Management Systems (PMS), Propulsion Control Systems (PCS), PLCs, and automation networks.
  • Ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Experience coordinating commissioning activities with customers, shipyards, equipment suppliers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience in project scheduling, commissioning progress monitoring, technical reporting, and documentation management.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a shipyard environment and manage multiple technical priorities.
  • Good written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate effectively with international engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with Singapore shipyard safety requirements and electrical commissioning practice.

Desired Characteristics

  • Previous involvement in naval vessels, commercial shipbuilding, offshore platforms, or marine power and propulsion projects.
  • Experience with 6.6 kV medium-voltage power distribution systems and associated protection equipment.
  • Practical exposure to Harbour Acceptance Tests (HAT), Sea Acceptance Tests (SAT), and vessel commissioning activities.
  • Experience coordinating overseas Field Service Engineers and managing technical handovers between rotating engineering teams.
  • Proven ability to document technical lessons learned and transfer knowledge across multiple projects or vessels.
