AstraZeneca, one of the world’s leading healthcare companies, is recruiting for a Corporate Affairs Manager to lead AstraZeneca Malaysia’s strategic communications and policy engagement. This critical role will spearhead the planning and implementation of strategies that align with our commercial growth objectives and enhance our corporate reputation. The role covers corporate reputation, public relations, and government affairs, including developing and implementing strategies to enhance the company’s reputation, shaping policy change, managing stakeholder relationships—especially within the Ministry of Health (MOH) ecosystem and patient groups—and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Affairs, the role will be based in Malaysia and work as part of a cross-functional team, partnering with local and regional/international teams to shape perceptions of AstraZeneca, build on its pandemic legacy, proactively shape our reputation in innovation, advance policy within priority oncology therapy areas, and drive the sustainability agenda.

  • Strengthen local public–private and private–private partnerships, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.
  • Identify potential opportunities within MOH and other ministries, as well as relevant organizations, that will support business growth in the short, medium, and long term.

Policy Development:

  • Develop strategies for influencing policy change that align with the company's objectives and priority therapy areas, including access, reimbursement, and care pathways.
  • Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments that impact the pharmaceutical industry and TA focused ecosystem in Malaysia.
  • Advocate for the company's interests in policy discussions and regulatory matters, ensuring compliant, ethical engagement.

Stakeholder Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including MOH officials and divisions, hospital administrators, clinical leaders, media, industry associations, community leaders, and government stakeholders.
  • Identify and engage with key stakeholders, including patient groups and advocacy organizations in the TA area assigned, to build supportive relationships and incorporate patient perspectives.
  • Conduct stakeholder analysis and develop tailored engagement plans to address their needs, concerns, and shared goals.

Crisis Management:

  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans to handle potential issues and emergencies affecting reputation, policy, or access.
  • Act as the primary point of contact during crises, providing timely and accurate information to stakeholders, and aligning responses with internal cross-functional teams.

Team Leadership:

  • Manage and mentor a team of communications and public relations professionals, fostering high performance and collaboration.
  • Set performance goals, provide feedback, and support professional development and capability building.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Political Science, Health Policy, Medical Degree or a medical-related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare (pharmaceutical, medtech, health policy, private hospitals, healthcare government linked company/agency) with direct exposure to the MOH ecosystem and stakeholder navigation; experience working with the Ministry of Health Malaysia is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory environment, particularly in oncology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans across reputation, policy, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in crisis management and handling media and external inquiries.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including patient organizations.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, multicultural, matrixed environment and able to develop and maintain networks across business and cultural boundaries.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strategic thinking and planning.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including stakeholder and policy analysis.
