JOB DESCRIPTION
Business Development Representative (Industrial Energy Solutions)
Company: RPG Energy Group, Inc.
Location: Indianapolis, IN (Hybrid / Field-Based)
Reports To: VP of Design and Development
ROLE SUMMARY
The Business Development Representative (“BDR”) is an active, outbound sales role responsible for originating, educating, qualifying, and advancing industrial and commercial energy opportunities. This role requires consistent prospect engagement, customer education, and disciplined pipeline development in long-cycle, consultative sales environments.
This position is not a managerial or people-leadership role. Success is measured by activity discipline, customer engagement quality, and the ability to build trust-driven opportunities that advance through RPG’s development pipeline.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Active Opportunity Origination
- Proactively identify, target, and engage industrial and commercial prospects through outbound outreach.
- Own first-contact initiation, follow-up cadence, and early-stage relationship development.
- Maintain consistent prospecting volume aligned with RPG sales expectations.
2. Customer Education & Trust Building
- Educate prospective customers on:
- Industrial energy concepts
- Cost, risk, and operational impacts
- RPG’s development approach and differentiators
- Conduct structured discovery conversations to uncover customer pain points and decision drivers.
- Deliver case studies, concept overviews, and preliminary insights as part of the sales process.
3. Opportunity Qualification & Advancement
- Qualify opportunities based on technical, financial, and organizational fit.
- Advance prospects through RPG’s defined sales stages with clear next steps.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Sales Engineering, Preconstruction, Operations) to shape viable solutions.
4. CRM Discipline & Reporting
- Maintain accurate, same-day CRM updates for all prospect activity.
- Track outreach, conversations, meetings, and opportunity status.
- Provide weekly activity and pipeline reports to Sales leadership.
5. Internal Alignment
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure expectations, timelines, and assumptions are aligned.
- Represent RPG professionally and consistently in all external interactions.
REQUIRED ACTIVITY STANDARDS (MINIMUM EXPECTATIONS)
These are baseline expectations, not aspirational goals:
- Outbound prospecting touches: 50–75 per week
- Live prospect conversations: 8–12 per week
- Discovery meetings: 4–6 per month
- Educational interactions: Required for every qualified prospect
- CRM updates: Same business day, no exceptions
- Weekly reporting: Activity metrics + qualitative insights
Failure to meet activity standards will be treated as a performance issue regardless of downstream pipeline outcomes.
SUCCESS METRICS
Performance will be evaluated on:
- Consistency of outbound activity
- Quality and frequency of prospect engagement
- Ability to educate and build trust with customers
- Pipeline development and advancement
- CRM accuracy and reporting discipline
- Collaboration with internal teams
Revenue outcomes are expected to follow disciplined execution of the above behaviors.
At-Will Employment
Please note this offer does not constitute a contract of employment for any specific duration. Your employment with RPG is “at-will,” which means either party may terminate the relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice.
