Description
As GFT continues to grow and expand, we are seeking an emerging Sr. Highway/Roadway Project Engineer to support our Transportation group in our Kansas City, MO or Witchita, KS locations. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of 3 days of onsite office attendance.

What you’ll be challenged to do:
As a Sr. Project Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of roadway and highway projects across the Midwest. You’ll support project delivery for state, municipal, and other public- sector clients while working under the guidance of project managers. In this role, you’ll take ownership of design tasks, prepare plans and technical documentation, and support project management activities to meet our high standards for delivering projects on time, within scope, and in alignment with established quality expectations. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, and continue developing your technical expertise and client-facing skills within the transportation infrastructure sector.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Leads the development of project design concepts and criteria and researches large or complex project elements.
- Responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating large or complex engineering assignments.
- Responsible to work within the project team with experience for Roadway and to gain a working knowledge of other disciplines such as transit, bridge, geotech, civil/site and environmental.
- Acts as technical specialist in the development of proposals.
- May develop basic to moderate scopes of work and cost estimates independently.
- Provides management of Roadway personnel for a project.
- Provides QA/QC reviews.
- May supervise a staff of engineers and other technical specialists.
- Responsible for working closely with clients for development of technically sound solutions and client satisfaction.
- Responsible to work on multiple concurrent assignments and time management.
- Responsible for executing the project scope of work and managing the technical development of the work and maintaining the budget and schedule.
- Responsible for obtaining the permits necessary to complete the project and to provide interaction with the permitting agencies.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Kansas or Missouri; additional state licensure is a plus.
- 10+ years of engineering experience with broad knowledge of transportation design and strong technical skills in highway design.
- Experience with State DOT and/or local municipality/county design projects.
- Proficient in MicroStation, OpenRoads, and Microsoft Office products.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment, self-starter, demonstrated organization skills, team player, and willingness to learn.
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $100,000 - $140,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
