Senior Highway Engineer
Department: Transportation

Compensation: $105,000 - $145,000 / year
Description
Responsibilities
- Task Leader: Lead highway and roadway design teams on planning and design tasks. Manage tasks including design within project scope, schedule, budget, staffing and deliverable.
- Highway and Roadway Design Subject Matter Expert: Develop highway alignments and profiles, typical sections, grading, cross-sections, and safety improvements including guide rail and median barrier design in accordance with NJTA, NJDOT and AASHTO standards.
- Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project objectives are met efficiently and within budget.
- Safety Improvements and Maintenance and Protection of Traffic: Evaluate existing roadways for safety improvements, including existing signage and striping. Develop the MPT needs for construction projects to manage traffic flow safely during construction, including barrier placement, construction signage, and temporary striping.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs comply with NJTA, NJDOT, AASHTO, and local transportation agency regulations.
- Plan Development and Software Utilization: Prepare technical reports, plans using CAD software, with preference for MicroStation in accordance with NJTA and NJDOT standards.
- Project Delivery: Perform quantity takeoff calculations, prepare cost estimates and prepare project specifications to client requirements.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: 10+ years of industry experience in highway design or transportation engineering.
- Certification/License: Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey or ability to obtain through reciprocity within a year, required
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MicroStation InRoads or OpenRoads (preferred) or other CAD software for roadway design.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with NJTA, NJDOT, and AASHTO design standards and guidelines.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, agency representatives, project teams, and project managers.
