As Tribe Lead Global Infrastructure Networks, you will define the future of ING’s global network and connectivity landscape, driving the strategy and transformation of the platforms that enable secure, resilient and scalable ING banking services worldwide. This is a rare opportunity to influence enterprise-wide technology decisions and leave a lasting impact across the organisation.

The team

You will form part of the Global Infrastructure management team.  Global Infrastructure is the technology backbone of ING, providing the platforms, networks, cloud services, and core technology foundations that power digital banking across the world. Automation & Orchestration sits at the heart of this landscape, defining how infrastructure is designed, automated, secured, and operated at scale.

You will lead a global tribe of around 310 engineers and technology leaders. The tribe is responsible for the networking digital products that underpin employee access, third-party connectivity, firewalls, private networking and secure communication across ING. Together with senior stakeholders across technology, architecture, risk and business functions, you will drive standardisation, simplification and convergence across the global network landscape. The culture is collaborative, international and product-focused, with a strong emphasis on ownership, engineering excellence and continuous improvement.

Roles & Responsibilities

In this role, you will lead the strategy, transformation and performance of ING's global networking capabilities. 

  • Leading the enterprise-wide vision and roadmap for networking platforms, ensuring secure, resilient and scalable connectivity across ING. 

  • Driving standardisation and convergence of networking services, reducing complexity and creating reusable capabilities for technology teams across the bank. 

  • Steering innovation, automation and product lifecycle management to improve reliability, efficiency and long-term platform sustainability. 

  • Overseeing investment decisions, financial performance, risk management and regulatory compliance across the networking portfolio. 

  • Building strong partnerships with senior stakeholders to align priorities, resolve cross-domain challenges and accelerate platform adoption.

  • Developing high-performing engineering teams, strengthening capability, craftsmanship and engagement across a global organisation.

Technical Skills

Functional emphasis: Connectivity strategy, secure network services, standardisation, convergence, platform lifecycle and resilience.

  • Enterprise network architecture: LAN/WAN, data centre networking, campus connectivity and segmentation.

  • Software-defined networking: SD-WAN, SDN, network automation, intent-based networking and network-as-code.

  • Cloud connectivity: private cloud connectivity, hybrid patterns, routing, DNS, latency and traffic engineering.

  • Security network services: firewalls, segmentation, zero-trust network access and secure third-party connectivity.

  • Load balancing and traffic management: ADCs, global traffic management, DDoS protection and high availability.

  • Routing and resilience: BGP/OSPF concepts, failover design, active-active connectivity and DR networking.

  • Network observability: telemetry, flow monitoring, packet-analysis concepts and performance diagnostics.

  • Network lifecycle standardisation: convergence into reusable global connectivity products.

Note: Tribe Lead level technical fluency — intended for direction-setting, architectural challenge, risk governance, investment steering and senior engineering leadership; not a hands-on engineer requirement.
