Description

As Tribe Lead Global Infrastructure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), you will set the direction for our compute

(virtual server and Container) and storage platforms that power ING’s technology landscape, helping teams

across the bank build secure, resilient and scalable services. This is a rare opportunity to influence enterprise wide strategy, lead large-scale transformation and build a future-ready infrastructure ecosystem used across

multiple countries.

The team

You will form part of the Global Infrastructure management team. Global Infrastructure is the technology

backbone of ING, providing the platforms, networks, cloud services, and core technology foundations that power

digital banking across the world. Automation & Orchestration sits at the heart of this landscape, defining how

infrastructure is designed, automated, secured, and operated at scale. You will lead a global tribe of around 320 engineers and technology leaders. The tribe owns compute, containers, storage, artefacts and ransomware resilience platforms that form the foundation of ING’s technology environment. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will drive platform convergence,

innovation and adoption across the bank while fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, learning and engineering excellence.

Roles & Responsibilities

In this role, you will lead the strategy, transformation and performance of ING’s global IaaS portfolio by

delivering outcomes that create long-term value for the organisation.

  • Leading the enterprise-wide vision and roadmap for compute, storage, artefacts and ransomware resilience platforms.

  • Driving platform standardisation and convergence across ING, enabling secure and scalable infrastructure consumption.

  • Transforming the IaaS portfolio through innovation, automation and disciplined product lifecycle management.

  • Overseeing strategic investments, financial performance, risk and regulatory compliance.

  • Building trusted partnerships with senior stakeholders and accelerating enterprise adoption of strategic platforms.

  • Embedding a product-led operating model across infrastructure services, ensuring platforms are managed through clear customer outcomes, adoption measures, value creation and lifecycle accountability.

  • Developing high-performing engineering teams while strengthening craftsmanship and capability growth.

Technical Skills

Functional emphasis: Platform strategy, compute/storage/container lifecycle, ransomware resilience, investment management and standardisation.

  • Compute platforms: virtualisation, private cloud, VM lifecycle, server infrastructure and capacity models (preferred VMware VCF9 based).

  • Container platforms: Kubernetes / OpenShift concepts, cluster lifecycle, workload placement and platform resilience. (preferred VMware VCF9 based).

  • Storage technologies: block, file and object storage, replication, backup/restore and performance tiers.

  • Artefact and repository management: binary repositories, container registries and supply-chain controls.

  • Ransomware resilience: immutable backup, cyber recovery vaults, isolation patterns and recovery testing.

  • Hybrid cloud infrastructure: integration between on-prem platforms, public cloud and landing zones.

  • Capacity and performance management: forecasting, utilisation and cost/performance trade-offs.

  • Infrastructure lifecycle standardisation: platform convergence, decommissioning and technical debt reduction.

  • Note: Tribe Lead level technical fluency — intended for direction-setting, architectural challenge, risk governance, investment steering and senior engineering leadership; not a hands-on engineer requirement.
