Job Description
The Network Administrator is responsible for supporting end-user systems, applications, and basic network services within our integrated ISP and transport environment. This role assists users with software installations, desktop configurations, and troubleshooting end-user issues while adhering to established policies. The Network Administrator collaborates with the Senior Network Engineer, Provisioning Specialist and NOC Technicians to ensure a stable, secure, and user-friendly computing environment.
Responsibilities
- User Support and Troubleshooting:
- Provide hands-on technical support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and related peripherals.
- Assist employees with software installations, updates, and patches for productivity and business applications.
- Network Administration (Basic):
- Perform routine account management tasks, including setting up new user accounts and ensuring proper authorization and access based on RADIUS and MFA policies.
- Assist with configuring DHCP, DNS entries, and ensuring end-user devices properly connect to the IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack environment.
- System Maintenance and Updates:
- Apply OS and application updates, antivirus and endpoint security solutions, and ensure compliance with company security policies.
- Support virtualization and storage platforms as needed, working with systems engineers to provision and maintain server environments.
- Documentation and Inventory:
- Maintain accurate documentation of user setups, software licenses, and equipment inventory.
- Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for common support tasks.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Coordinate with the NOC and Senior Network Engineer on escalations and complex troubleshooting.
- Communicate effectively with end users to clarify issues, provide instructions, and ensure timely resolutions.Aids other departments and personnel to help develop and implement new and advanced telecommunications products, services, and tariffs.
- Must be able and willing to work on call during nights, weekends, and holidays.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Must be able to perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Associate’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+) preferred.
Minimum two (2) years of experience in IT support or network administration roles.
Familiarity with Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems, as well as common productivity software (e.g., Microsoft 365).
Basic understanding of network fundamentals (IP addressing, DHCP, DNS, IPv4/IPv6).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to severe weather conditions.
Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and risk of electrical shock.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: Yes. Must be willing and able to travel, as required, to job sites which may include the use of small planes and boats.
