Description
Make a Difference at the Main Library!
Join the team at the Allen County Public Library as a Part-Time Branch Assistant in our Teens Department at the Main Library in downtown Fort Wayne! This on-site position is a great opportunity to connect with teens and families, provide excellent customer service, and help create a welcoming environment where young people can learn, explore, and discover.
You'll be part of a collaborative team that values integrity, teamwork, inclusion, and people-first service. If you enjoy working with people, are comfortable with technology, and want to play a role in helping teens make the most of their library experience, we'd love to hear from you!
As a Branch Assistant in the Teens Department at the Main Library, you'll help create a positive and welcoming experience for teens and all library visitors. You'll interact with patrons throughout the day, helping them find library materials, use library services, and navigate the resources available to them.
Working in a busy downtown library means no two days are exactly alike. You may help a teen find a great book, assist someone with a computer or other technology, answer a question about an upcoming program, or help a patron navigate a library service. You'll use your patience, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities to provide friendly, effective service to a diverse range of customers.
As a member of the Teens Department team, you'll also contribute to maintaining an environment that is welcoming, respectful, and supportive of teens and other library visitors.
Are You the Branch Assistant We're Looking For?
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with a diverse range of people and enjoys providing helpful, friendly customer service. You should be comfortable using technology and able to learn automated library systems, electronic tools, personal computers, and related software and equipment.
You'll need to:
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Follow written and verbal instructions and established procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling patron records and transactions.

- Work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
- Contribute positively to a team and build effective working relationships.
- Use good judgment and remain calm and professional in a busy public-service environment.
Experience working with teens, in a library, or in a customer-service environment is helpful, but we're especially interested in candidates who are friendly, dependable, approachable, adaptable, and excited about helping people.
