Description
Job Role: Payment Operations Manager
ACE Money Transfer Limited Ireland
About the Role:
ACE Money Transfer is looking for an experienced and thoughtful Payment Operations Manager to oversee the full lifecycle of our payment processes.
This role is critical to keeping our payment operations secure, efficient, resilient and compliant with regulatory expectations, including the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) Operational Resilience guidance.
You will be a subject-matter expert across payment processing, pay-in and pay-out operations, and alternative payment methods (APMs). You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to strengthen controls, improve operational performance, and make sure our customers' money moves safely and reliably every time.
The role sits within the Operations department and reports to the COO. It offers a key role in shaping payment operations strategy for a growing international money transfer business. You will get hands-on exposure to cross-border payments, provider management and EU regulatory frameworks, with room for professional growth and real commercial impact.
Responsibilities
End-to-End Payment Operations Oversight
Manage end-to-end payment processes across pay-in channels (cards, bank transfers, APMs), internal reviews, reconciliations and pay-out partner settlements.
Maintain strong operational controls across all payment flows, identifying risks and putting effective mitigations in place.
Act as the escalation point for complex or high-risk payment operations issues.
Payment Performance & Reporting
Analyse transaction trends, failure and decline patterns, provider performance and corridor data to find the root causes of operational issues and recommend corrective actions.
Build and manage dashboards that track payment success rates, exceptions, reconciliation breaks and provider performance by corridor.
Present insights and actionable recommendations to senior management to improve payment performance and throughput.
Work with IT and Product teams to optimise payment routing, provider integrations and operational workflows for reliability and cost efficiency.
Monitor provider fees and processing costs to support commercial and operational optimisation.
Partner & Provider Management
Act as ACE's operational point of contact for payment service providers and banking partners, making sure they meet service levels and agreed operating procedures.
Keep up to date with emerging payment methods, provider capabilities and regional payment developments, and use them to inform ACE's payment operations strategy.
Governance, Compliance & Resilience
Make sure all payment operations comply with PCI requirements, AML/CFT standards, safeguarding obligations and regulatory expectations.
Run and maintain operational resilience activities in line with CBI guidance, including scenario testing, incident response planning, dependency mapping and control strengthening.
Manage payment-related incidents: carry out root cause analysis, oversee remediation and handle stakeholder communication.
Support audits, regulatory reviews and internal assurance activities.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
Lead continuous improvement initiatives that raise efficiency, accuracy, straight-through processing (STP) and commercial performance.
Develop and maintain clear procedures, controls and documentation for payment operations.
Produce and review management information (MI) and KPIs on payment performance, risk and partner effectiveness.
Lead and coach team members working on payment processing, reconciliation and review.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Business, Finance, Operations Management or a related field.
5–8 years of experience in payment operations, payments or reconciliation roles within banking, fintech, a payment service provider (PSP) or remittance.
Strong understanding of payment operations in a money transfer, fintech, PSP or financial services environment.
Good knowledge of payment processing, reconciliation, settlement and provider reporting.
Experience managing high-volume transaction flows, reconciliation and operational controls.
Experience handling payment provider performance issues and optimising payment routing.
Proven ability to analyse high-volume transaction data and turn the insights into measurable operational improvements.
Experience managing external payment partners and their operational performance.
Good understanding of regulatory, PCI and operational resilience expectations, including CBI guidance.
Experience supporting audits, regulatory engagements and compliance reviews.
People management or team leadership experience is desirable.
Soft Skills & Leadership
Risk and control orientation: a strong control mindset with close attention to regulatory and resilience expectations.
Analytical and strategic thinking: a proactive problem-solver who moves from data to root cause to action.
Communication and influence: clear, professional communication, with the ability to influence stakeholders across functions and senior management.
Cross-functional collaboration: works effectively with IT, Product, Compliance, Finance, and external partners.
Payment operations expertise: a trusted subject-matter expert who can guide others through complex payment issues.
Team leadership: able to coach and develop team members and build a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement.
