Billing & Payroll Specialist
North Star Oregon, LLC | Remote work opportunities available
Pay: Starting at $24 per hour, with higher pay considered based on relevant experience.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.
Location: Grants Pass, OR administrative office. Remote work may be considered based on experience, training needs, and job responsibilities.
Bring your skills. Grow with our team. Make a difference.
North Star Oregon (NSO) is growing! As more individuals and families choose NSO for intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) services, we are adding a Billing & Payroll Specialist to support and provide backup coverage for our current Billing/Payroll Specialist.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with technology, solving problems, and helping people. Your work will help ensure services are billed accurately, employees are paid correctly, and our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) receive the assistance they need to document their work.
Have billing experience but limited payroll experience—or the other way around? We encourage you to apply. This is a unique position, and we are willing to train the right person who brings relevant experience, strong technical skills, and a commitment to learning.
What you’ll do
- Assist with billing and payroll preparation, review, reconciliation, and processing; provide backup coverage as trained and assigned.
- Work with systems such as eXPRS, Paylocity, and Client Record Management System to review service records, timecards, and supporting documentation.
- Review shift notes for completeness and clear descriptions of the supports provided; follow up with employees when clarification or additional documentation is needed.
- Research timecard discrepancies and make authorized corrections based on verified information, maintaining a clear record of changes.
- Help employees use timekeeping and payroll systems, mobile apps, and shift documentation tools with patience and clear instructions.
- Coordinate with coworkers, employees, and service coordinators to resolve billing questions, missing information, and service authorization discrepancies.
- Help identify and resolve rejected claims, billing errors, and payroll issues.
- Maintain organized records, protect confidential information, and meet billing and payroll deadlines.
- Learn and follow applicable Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) for IDD attendant care, billing requirements, employment practices, and NSO procedures.
- Contribute ideas that improve accuracy, efficiency, and the employee experience.
What you’ll bring
- Experience in billing, payroll, or a closely related administrative role.
- Knowledge of Oregon IDD billing and eXPRS, along with experience using Paylocity, is strongly preferred. Training may be available for gaps in experience.
- Strong technology skills and confidence navigating computer systems, mobile apps, spreadsheets, and other software.
- The ability to learn new systems quickly, troubleshoot common issues, and explain steps to others.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and time management.
- The ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to review records, explain processes, and prepare accurate documentation.
- Professional communication skills when working with coworkers, employees, and service coordinators.
- Sound judgment, discretion, and respect for confidential employee and client information.
- The ability to work independently, ask questions when needed, and collaborate with a team.
Employee service is essential here
Our employees deserve friendly, respectful, and responsive support. Customer service to our employees is a core responsibility of this position.
We are looking for someone who listens, explains without judgment, follows through, and helps employees feel comfortable asking questions. Whether you are helping a DSP navigate a mobile app or clarifying a timecard entry, how you provide support matters.
Why join North Star Oregon?
You’ll join a supportive, collaborative team doing meaningful work for individuals with IDD. We value people who share knowledge, communicate openly, take responsibility, and contribute to a positive work environment.
This role offers an opportunity to expand your skills across billing and payroll, help strengthen our growing operations, and become a valued resource for our employees. Remote work may be available, with arrangements based on training needs, job responsibilities, and the ability to provide dependable support.
