Summary
The Supplier Quality Engineer develops and implements policies, procedures, and practices to ensure external vendors and raw material suppliers consistently meet company and regulatory quality standards. This role includes evaluating supplier facilities, processes, and quality systems, as well as supporting supplier and part certification efforts. The engineer analyzes data to identify trends in product quality or defects, working to prevent recurrence and future issues. They also lead root cause investigations and coordinate corrective actions for supplier-related problems.
Incumbent in this role is considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline with a full understanding of area of specialization. May assist less-experienced peers. Represent the stage that a person will stabilize in their career and may stay at this level many years. Position requires professional degree in a single discipline with typically 5 years of related experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Review the purchase requisitions to ensure the adequacy of specified quality requirements prior to their communication to the suppliers.
- Verify all drawings, specifications, and SOWs are released documents prior to approval of purchase requisition.
- Verify each COTS item procured has an OEM/OCM or authorized distributor identified.
- Collaborate with program quality engineering to ensure quality standards are properly flowed to suppliers.
- Ensure the correct quality assurance codes are applied based on the requirements for the commodity.
- Review purchase requisitions and requests to obtain quote to ensure the adequacy of specified quality requirements prior to their communication to the suppliers.
- Review approved supplier records to ensure all audits, surveys, and applicable 3rd party certifications are current and maintained in our supplier registry system.
- Generate supplier scorecards to reflect ongoing measurements of supplier delivery and quality performance.
- Approve new suppliers in the approved supplier registry and qualify by reviewing documentation and/or site visits.
- Issue and track supplier corrective action requests.
- Support the internal audit and corrective action processes.
- Position may require 10% travel to support supplier evaluations.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Associate’s degree in related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years related work experience.
- Experience in an ISO 9001 quality management system or AS9100 quality Management system for aviation, space and defense environment.
- Experience with identification of requirements in customer contracts, specifications and drawings.
- Experience with review of purchase orders/requisition for quality requirements flow down.
- Knowledge of commodities-based procurements is required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel is required.
- Experience auditing quality systems for deficiencies is a plus
- Certified in lean and six-sigma is a plus.

All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.
- Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.
