The opportunity
In this role you drive excellence in quality, delivery, and compliance for the supply base. Furthermore, you ensure global processes are understood and implemented by the SCM network. As Supplier Quality Management Specialist – Lean Manufacturing you will work closely with Hitachi Energy High Voltage Supply Chain, Technical Center, Group Product Service Engineering, Quality, and the Global SCM team on all activity required to effectively support supplier manufacturing process development (Quality and Capacity) based on Lean Manufacturing methodology for assigned High Voltage commodities and suppliers.
How you’ll make an impact
Lean Manufacturing Implementation & Coaching
- Partner with assigned suppliers to assess current-state manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to apply Lean principles (5S, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, SMED, Kanban, Standard Work, Poka-Yoke, TPM, etc.).
- Lead or co-lead Kaizen events and continuous improvement workshops at supplier sites to eliminate waste, reduce variation, and improve flow.
- Develop and deliver Lean training and coaching to supplier engineering, quality, and production teams to build sustainable internal capability.
- Support suppliers in developing Lean transformation roadmaps aligned with company expectations and timelines
Capacity Management
- Assess supplier production capacity, line balancing, and bottleneck constraints; support capacity studies and ramp-up/ramp-down planning.
- Work with suppliers to improve throughput and flexibility using Lean flow principles rather than solely through capital investment.
- Support risk assessments for capacity constraints affecting supply continuity and escalate risks to Supplier Quality/Commodity management
Program & Stakeholder Management
- Develop and track supplier improvement plans with clear milestones, owners, and measurable outcomes tied to QCC metrics.
- Report supplier Lean maturity, quality performance, cost savings, and capacity status to internal stakeholders and leadership.
- Represent Supplier Quality in cross-functional meetings (Sourcing, Engineering, Operations) regarding supplier performance and risk.
- Maintain supplier scorecards and Lean maturity assessments; conduct periodic on-site audits/assessments
Your background
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant technical field from an accredited university or college
- Fluent English and Chinese – capable to lead technical conference calls, read drawings and procedures in English and Chinese
- 7+ year previous experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma projects
- Ability to work in cross functional and global team environments
- Ability and willingness to travel 40% as required
- Lean Six Sigma black belt trained and certified
