Interns with the Legal/Risk Management team at Windstar will have the opportunity to work closely with the General Counsel and Director of Risk Management and gain exposure to leaders across Marine Operations, Hotel Operations, Sales & Marketing, Human Resources, and Medical Operations. With a focus on claims administration, marine insurance, sales & marketing, and regulatory compliance, the intern will see firsthand how Legal & Risk management supports Windstar’s fleet and shoreside operations.

 

Windstar’s Legal & Risk Management department is responsible for all contract management & negotiations, claims and litigation oversight, the company’s marine insurance programs (Protection & Indemnity and Hull & Machinery), medical operations support, oversight of regulatory and ADA compliance. This internship will provide invaluable real-world experience in claims management, insurance administration, commercial agreements and legal and regulatory compliance within the cruise industry.

 

This internship will be based in Windstar Cruises' Corporate Offices in Doral, FL.

Responsibilities

• Assist in tracking and managing crew and guest claims through the department’s claims management system
• Support marine insurance program administration, including claims reporting and renewal documentation for Protection & Indemnity (P&I) and Hull & Machinery (H&M) coverage
• Assist with contract management and other projects of a commercial legal nature in support of the Legal department
• Research risk management policies, procedures, and maritime regulatory requirements
• Support ADA compliance initiatives
• Assist in the review of medical operations claims and related reporting
• Help prepare risk management reports and presentations for senior leadership
• Support the maintenance and enhancement of internal claims tracking tools
• Participate in departmental meetings and gain exposure to leaders across Legal, Commercial, Marine, Hotel, Human Resources, and Medical Operations

Qualifications

• Current law student preferred; Legal Studies, Risk Management, Business, or related major with at least three years of undergraduate coursework completed
• Interest in insurance, claims administration, maritime law, or regulatory compliance preferred
• Advanced Excel (formulas), Word, and PowerPoint preferred
• Ability to communicate in a clear and professional manner
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced operational environment
