QC Lab Testing Assistant

Purpose: This position is responsible for performing duties regarding all methods of testing resins and finished products to assure maximum quality and productivity within the plant manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):

• Conduct tests on various resin bases and additives in effort to assist the materials and engineering group in accomplishing and improving physical requirements.
• Analyze and interpret test results and convey these results accordingly.
• Perform safe handling and storage of laboratory supplies & chemicals.
• Maintain, purchase, operate, and care for lab testing equipment and supplies.
• Input test data into computer spreadsheets & databases.
• Perform blend sampling as necessary, preparing hand blends and optimizing blends as required.
• Test sample resins from vendors, boxed incoming resins, blended resins, and double- coned resins for moisture, ash, and melt index, tensile, flex as necessary.
• Dry batches of test samples in the lab vacuum oven to a specified moisture content, while also testing ash and melt-index.
• Mold test-bars utilizing the dedicated lab molding machine, and then test tensile, 3-point bending (flex), and/or impact strength prior to assigning this material for use in production, and providing this information to material manager and design engineers as needed.
• Mold samples to perform in-house trials with various impact modifiers, anti-oxidants, melt-flow stabilizers; monitor short and long-term effects and effectiveness of different additive packages.
• Prepare samples and deliver to approved outside labs for further testing when necessary. Perform duct testing as needed, as well as various other tests as procedures and requirements are defined or broadened.
• Work with mixing batches of concrete for various duct testing assignments.
• Perform testing for inspection services such as PSI, etc.
• See various projects through to completion.
• Work with general contractors or outside vendors if necessary.
• Document raw material test results, manage PP database, create, and issue resin certification as needed.
• Maintain, track, and store duct and resin retain samples.
• Utilize camera to document testing, incorporate pics into test reports, QC training, etc.
• Manage calibration of testing devices, load cells, calipers, etc.
• Calibrate jacks utilizing hydraulic pump as required
• Make occasional sample deliveries to outside labs or pick-up lab-related supplies as needed.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
• Any and all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Must be able to maintain 98% or greater attendance.
• Must be competent and efficient in all functions of the test lab as well as QC procedures on the production floor.
• May also be required to fill in for Lab Mgr and/or QC Techs on any shift in their absence.
• Understand part quality in order to consult with engineering, QC, maintenance, scheduling, and customer service to ensure production of necessary product quality.
• Perform laboratory testing as needed, accurately and efficiently.
• Understand function and software operation of the Universal Tester.
• Understand function and operation of lab testing equipment, including:
  • Melt Index Tester, Ash Testing, Vacuum Drying Oven, Moisture Analyzer, Densimeter, Izod Impact w/2# Hammer
• Must be able to operate molding machine to create test bars and color plaques
• Must be able to create and manage certificates for approved resins as required using Word and Adobe
• Must be able to troubleshoot molding machine and test equipment as necessary
• Be able to accurately collect test samples as required.
• Be able to record test results and data onto an Excel spreadsheet
• Place non-conforming resins on HOLD or LIMITED USE status. Must complete information on label and properly communicate to management when this is done.
• Perform basic analysis to product performance when required.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred
• Bilingual helpful, but not required
• 1 year experience with exposure to GTI company products preferred.
• Able to understand, comprehend, and relay work instructions.
• Basic math & computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.)
