Renewable Energy Investment Analyst

This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days per month in the office. You will be based in our office in WRI Indonesia, Jakarta. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission as WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position. 

Program Overview

The Energy and Sustainable Business (ESB) program works to accelerate Indonesia’s transition toward a low-carbon economy while supporting continued economic development. In support of Indonesia’s net-zero emissions and energy transition goals, we work across both the demand and supply sides of the energy system: helping businesses reduce emissions and access cleaner energy, while also advancing the broader conditions needed to accelerate renewable energy deployment. In collaboration with industries and industrial parks, business associations, key ministries, PLN, financial institutions, and other partners, we provide technical assistance and capacity building to businesses, support policy and regulatory improvements that enable greater renewable energy integration into the grid and help strengthen the investment ecosystem needed for renewable energy projects to scale. Combining policy and technical expertise with WRI’s convening power, the program seeks to bring together government, businesses, utilities, investors, and other stakeholders to translate Indonesia’s energy transition ambitions into concrete action, investment, and measurable emissions reductions.

One of our projects, MENTARI, is a UK–Indonesia low-carbon energy partnership delivered by the Humanis–WRI Indonesia Consortium. The program aims to strengthen Indonesia’s renewable energy enabling environment through two mutually reinforcing strands: Policy Reform and Investment Support. Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), environmental and social governance, adaptive management, and institutional capacity strengthening are embedded across program delivery. Through the Investment Support Strand, MENTARI aims to improve project readiness and bankability, increase the visibility of credible renewable energy opportunities, strengthen connections between project sponsors and capital providers, and increase the likelihood that selected projects progress toward due diligence or financing discussions. The program will engage stakeholders, including the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), PLN, the Ministry of Investment/BKPM, PT SMI, IIF, commercial banks, development finance institutions, climate and impact investors, renewable energy developers, industrial estates, corporate energy users, technology providers, and relevant industry associations.

Through this project, we aim to address the barriers to RE deployment through a structured pipeline-to-investment pathway. The project will refresh, validate, and prioritize renewable energy project opportunities from existing and new pipelines; conduct project screening and investment-readiness diagnostics; deliver targeted technical assistance and project preparation support; explore bundling and aggregation mechanisms; develop investor-relevant project materials; and facilitate engagement with financiers, investors, corporate off-takers, government institutions, and other market actors.

Job Highlight

The Renewable Energy Investment Analyst will support the Investment Support Manager and Investment Support Lead in delivering the MENTARI Investment Support Strand. The role responsible to deliver analytical and project-level support across pipeline development, project screening, investment-readiness diagnostics, financial and commercial analysis, technical assistance preparation, and investor/financier engagement.

The Analyst will work across renewable energy and eligible low-carbon energy projects of different technologies and scales. The position will maintain and analyse project data; review project documentation; develop and quality-check project screening and readiness assessments; conduct financial-model and commercial analysis; prepare concise project materials; and track investor and market feedback. The role will work closely with project sponsors, consultants, government institutions, PLN, financiers, development partners, and other market actors under the direction of the Investment Support Manager and Investment Support Lead.

The position will be based in Jakarta with an office-flexible work arrangement and will require travel to project locations across Indonesia. What You Will Do

Project Pipeline, Screening, and Readiness Analysis

• Maintain and analyse the MENTARI project pipeline, including project profiles, sponsor information, technology, capacity, development stage, key documents, identified gaps, and next actions.

• Conduct project revalidation and screening by applying minimum-data requirements, eligibility criteria, prioritisation factors, and readiness assessment tools; document the analytical basis for recommendations.

• Review project documentation and identify gaps across technical, commercial, financial, regulatory, land, permitting, grid/interconnection, ESG/GEDSI, and implementation dimensions.

• Prepare project-readiness diagnostics and Project Preparation Action Plans, including clear identification of decision-critical gaps and proposed technical-assistance needs.

• Conduct market and stakeholder research to identify potential project opportunities through engagement with government, PLN, developers, financiers, development partners, industry associations, and other relevant sources.

Financial and Investment Analysis

• Review and, where required, build or update project financial analyses covering CAPEX, OPEX, revenues, cash flows, IRR, NPV, debt-service capacity, financing assumptions, and sensitivity/scenario analysis; assess the consistency of key assumption, identify key drivers and flag downside risks

• Assess project revenue models, tariff/offtake assumptions, cost structures, financing requirements, and indicative commercial viability using available project information.

• Support preparation and review of investor-facing materials, including project summaries, investment-readiness notes, lender information packages, investment memoranda, and data-room checklists.

• Research and assess appropriate financing options and relevant capital providers, including commercial banks, PT SMI/IIF, MDBs/DFIs, impact and catalytic capital, strategic investors, corporate off-takers, and other appropriate financiers.

• Capture and synthesise investor/financier feedback and translate it into implications for project preparation, screening criteria, and financing pathways.

Technical Assistance and Project Preparation Support

• Prepare technical scopes of work, workplan inputs, assignment briefs, and project-specific documentation for technical-assistance activities under the guidance of the Investment Support Manager/Lead.

• Coordinate and consolidate analytical inputs from technical, financial, legal, ESG/GEDSI, engineering, and other specialist consultants, and support quality review of their deliverables.

• Track project-preparation actions, deliverables, timelines, data requests, and outstanding decisions, and flag delays or issues that may affect project progression.

• Contribute to analysis of potential project bundling or aggregation opportunities where smaller projects may benefit from shared preparation or financing structures.

Stakeholder Engagement, Reporting, and Knowledge

• Prepare concise briefing notes, meeting materials, project summaries, presentations, and analytical inputs for engagement with project sponsors, investors, government counterparts, PLN, and development partners.

• Maintain clear records of stakeholder engagement, investor feedback, project decisions, and evidence required for MREL and programme reporting.

• Contribute to weekly portfolio reviews, quarterly reporting, lessons learned, and policy/market feedback by identifying recurring project-development and financing barriers.

• Support integration of GEDSI/ESG considerations into screening, readiness diagnostics, project preparation, and investor materials in coordination with the GEDSI team.

What You Will Need

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, engineering, energy systems, infrastructure planning, public policy, sustainable development, or related field.

• Minimum of 4 (four) years of relevant professional experience in renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, project finance, banking, transaction advisory, financial advisory, investment readiness, or project development.

• Demonstrated analytical experience with project screening, financial analysis, feasibility assessment, investment readiness, due diligence, or related project-development work.

• Working understanding of the renewable energy project-development cycle, including feasibility, permitting, commercial & contractual structures, off-take arrangements, financing, implementation, and operations.

• Working knowledge of project-finance concepts and investment metrics, including CAPEX, OPEX, cash flow, NPV, IRR, debt sizing, DSCR or equivalent debt-service measures, and sensitivity analysis. Ability to review key financial-model assumptions, identify key value drivers and risks, and assess implications for project viability and bankability.

• Ability to interpret technical, commercial, financial, regulatory, ESG/GEDSI, and implementation information and translate it into concise decision-oriented analysis.

• Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills with experience in financial modelling and structured data analysis

• Strong writing, research, project organisation, and problem-solving skills, with close attention to data quality and documentation.

• Ability to communicate research approaches and findings effectively to internal audiences using compelling presentation skills.

• Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia and English, both written and verbal.

• Ability to engage with relevant stakeholders to obtain, validate, and clarify information needed to identify project development or investment gaps.

• Ability to work collaboratively under the direction of the Investment Support Manager and Investment Support Lead while independently managing assigned analyses and deliverables.

• Ability and willingness to travel within Indonesia as required.

• Legally able to work in Indonesia.

Contract Arrangement 

Full-time with fixed-term employment agreement for 6 (six) months with a possibility of extension up to 31 March 2028 subject to individual performance, project needs, and budget availability.
