Donor Relations Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Donor Relations Manager builds and strengthens relationships with individual donors to deepen their connection to United Way of Lane County and grow philanthropic support for our work. This position manages a portfolio of current and prospective donors and develops thoughtful, personalized strategies to engage, cultivate, solicit, retain and steward those relationships.

Working as part of the Resource Development team, the Donor Relations Manager combines strong relationship-building skills with consistent follow-through and effective portfolio management. The successful candidate will be comfortable initiating conversations, learning what motivates donors, connecting their interests with opportunities to make an impact, and directly asking for financial support.

Individuals successful in this position sincerely enjoy building authentic, transformational relationships and have an aptitude for creating an exceptional philanthropic experience for individual donors and prospective supporters. They are curious about what motivates people to give and bring a thoughtful, creative approach to connecting donors' interests and values with meaningful opportunities to make an impact. They combine strong relationship-building with consistent follow-through and effective portfolio management, independently managing relationships and priorities while collaborating closely with colleagues, organizational leadership, volunteers, and community partners to deepen donor engagement, inspire continued and increased giving, and generate sustainable revenue growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION

Donor Relationship Management and Fundraising

• Center donor engagement and resource development practices in UWLC's commitment to anti-racism, with awareness of systemic inequities, wealth disparities, and intersectionality.
• Manage a portfolio of approximately 450 current and prospective donors, achieving established annual goals for donor engagement, retention and solicitation activity.
• Build authentic relationships with donors, learning their interests, motivations, and philanthropic priorities and connecting them with meaningful opportunities to support UWLC's work.
• Broaden and diversify UWLC's donor base by identifying, qualifying, and engaging prospective supporters and building the pipeline of future donors.
• Engage donors through meetings, calls, written communications, events, tours, impact updates, recognition, and other personalized activities.
• Maintain timely and accurate CRM records of donor interactions, interests, commitments, and next steps.
• Represent UWLC at relevant organizational and community events.

Donor Engagement and Organizational Collaboration

• Partner with the Resource Development team to implement year-round donor acquisition, cultivation, solicitation, retention, and stewardship strategies.
• Support the Resource Development Committee's donor acquisition, retention, cultivation, and stewardship goals.
• Manage year-round outreach and solicitations for assigned donors in coordination with relevant team members.
• Support donor events by identifying and inviting appropriate donors, engaging attendees, and completing timely follow-up.
• Collaborate with other departments as needed to coordinate donor experiences, communications, engagement opportunities, and portfolio reporting.
• Contribute donor insight and frontline fundraising perspective to departmental planning and strategy.

Additional Responsibilities

• Assist with sponsorship development and workplace campaign activities as assigned.
• Support corporate and corporate-foundation proposals when they relate to assigned donor relationships or accounts.
• Provide requested information for United Way Worldwide surveys and reporting.
• Perform duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.
• Travel locally to donor meetings, events, and other work-related activities; use of a personal vehicle is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Education/ Experience

• Associates degree with 4+ years related working experience; or Bachelor's degree in related field with 2+ years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Demonstrated success managing donor or corporate relationships and achieving revenue goals.
• Strong relationship building, communication, and public speaking skills.
• Experience working collaboratively across teams and with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
• Valid Oregon driver's license and reliable transportation with ability to travel locally.

Desired Skills and Knowledge

• Experience in CRM systems; familiarity with Virtuous a plus
• Experience in data-driven fundraising

SALARY STATEMENT

The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is currently: $52,333-$73,267 annually. We anticipate hiring within the range of $52,333–$62,300, depending on experience and qualifications. Offered salaries are in alignment with Oregon's pay equity requirements and are determined by several factors including applicant's knowledge, ­­­skills, experience, position, equity, and market. We offer a bilingual pay differential for eligible employees.
