Technical Writer

The Digital Modernization Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Technical Writer to work in our Baltimore, Maryland office.  This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) document and communicate the modernization of its legacy Contact Center CRM Services (CCCS) platform.   

Primary Responsibilities

 

The Technical Writer shall develop and maintain the written deliverables, documentation, and communications required to support the CCCS modernization effort.

 

Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:

• Write, maintain and support all deliverables required under the Deliverables Schedule.
• Develop training support materials, release communications, and change management content.
• Partner with the Product Manager, Chief Architect, and Agile delivery teams to capture accurate, up-to-date technical content each sprint/release cycle and complete all SDLC documentation.
• Consult relevant sources, including CMS stakeholders, existing program documentation, and project artifacts, to verify accuracy, guidelines, and regulatory requirements governing project deliverables.
• Ensure all written content and documentation comply with Section 508 accessibility standards and CMS/HHS accessibility policies.
• Copyedit and proofread technical documentation, communications, and deliverables to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to CMS editorial standards.
• Develop and maintain knowledge base articles, FAQs, and CSR-facing scripting content in support of Intelligent Knowledge Surfacing and knowledge management capabilities.
• Manage multiple concurrent writing assignments and deliverables in a fast-paced, iterative Agile delivery environment.
• Coordinate with graphic designers, trainers, and multimedia specialists to integrate content strategy into broader stakeholder communications.
• Support development of executive-level briefings, white papers, and presentations communicating program status and technical strategy to CMS leadership.
• Maintain version control and a repository of documentation artifacts to support requirements traceability and audit readiness.
• Work independently and within Agile project teams, managing program-level and CMS review/approval processes for all deliverables.
• Ensure documents meet editorial and government specifications, adhering to standards for quality, format, and style.
• Communicate documentation status, risks, and dependencies to CMS leadership, and Leidos management.
• Actively participate and support in customer meetings and other events supporting the CRM modernization effort.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• Bachelor’s degree in writing, technical writing, journalism, communications, or a closely related discipline, and a minimum of 4-6 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to capture technical solutions and translate them into clear technical documentation and end-user focused communications
• Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to research, organize, and present complex information concisely
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent writing assignments and deliverables in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment
• Available to support in-person at Leidos/CMS Windsor Mill, MD (Baltimore) office, as needed
• Ability to obtain Public Trust

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Ability to write and edit content to Section 508 compliance standards
• Experience with Human-Centered Design (HCD) framework and methods
• Experience working with Agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence)
• Experience supporting CMS or other federal health/human services modernization programs
• Experience writing technical and end-user documentation for CRM or contact center platforms (e.g., Pega, Salesforce, Siebel)
• Experience in a similar working environment helpful but not required; new thinking from other industries or work environments considered a plus

Pay Range:

Pay Range $41,600.00 - $75,200.00
