Description

A student centric and team oriented position that focuses on providing in-person and virtual reference services for the District; teaches information literacy and library skills to students; participates in collection development; oversees daily library operations including assisting students with research; markets library services and resources to the library’s patron groups.

 
  1. Provides in-person and virtual reference assistance with a customer services emphasis to patrons across the District utilizing print and online resources; assists with access and use of online resources.
  2. Oversees the daily operations of the library; provides work lead, training and guidance to library personnel that may include library assistants and student assistants; addresses inappropriate patron behavior and activities within the facility and resolves problems as appropriate; applies appropriate policies and procedures; assists patrons with use of computer hardware and software to access and use information resources; and generates reports. 
  3. Plans, organizes, and teaches remote and in-person information literacy, research concepts, and other library classes to students across the District; creates online tutorials;  provides embedded librarian services and on-line workshops. 
  4. Evaluates, selects, and recommends print and electronic library materials and collaborates with faculty on collection development with an emphasis on OER resources and acts as a subject specialist liaison aligned with guided pathways. 
  5. Provides outreach services through liaison with faculty and staff to foster collaboration, teamwork and awareness concerning library resources and services; markets library services and resources to College community through events, meetings, social networking applications, and participation in other College activities. 
  6. Creates, develops and maintains research topic and resource guides, library handouts, and other instructional documentation in primarily online formats; contributes content; and assists in maintenance of library web pages.  
  7. Provides copy and original cataloging and classification of materials as needed; answers technical cataloging and classification questions including MARC record revisions.
  8. Stays current with trends and technologies in libraries; participates actively in professional associations; suggests and implements innovative and productive practices and services as appropriate and under guidance of the Library Director and in accordance with library mission and policy; and participates in library process and procedure development and implementation.
  9. Performs other duties commensurate with functions and level of position or as assigned.
EDUCATION:  Master’s Degree in Library Science.
 
EXPERIENCE:  Two (2) years of related experience.   
 
SPECIAL POSITION CONDITIONS:  May be required to travel to various campuses and/or locations in Pinal County. Evening and weekend duties required.

Background Verification:  As a condition of employment, all candidates accepting an offer of employment for a full-time, part- time, temporary, student worker, or volunteer position, will be required to undergo a Background Verification.  Employment with Central Arizona College is contingent upon the successful completion of the background verification.  The level the background verification for this position is: Standard level.

All applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position.


  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and practices of library science and library classification systems, collection development principals, and automated library information systems such as Polaris.
  • Knowledge of searching for references in both print and electronic formats.  
  • Knowledge of current and emerging library technologies including social networking technologies, and their innovative application to library practices including reference and information literacy instruction.
  • Knowledge of ACRL information literacy standards.
  • Knowledge of a user-centered approach to library services. 
  • Knowledge of using a variety of library information resources such as online databases, internet resources, and OPACs.
  • Skill in teaching information literacy skills to students.
  • Skill in researching and gathering information to effectively assist patrons in locating materials relevant to the topic.
  • Skill in delivering customer service.
  • Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in using word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and integrated library systems software such as Polaris, general computer systems and associated hardware, e.g., personal computers.
  • Skill in prioritizing work.
  • Skill in interacting with a culturally diverse populations, College administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Ability to adjust in an environment of rapid change and innovation.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage time in a dynamic environment and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to align work with strategic and service goals of the library.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The work is sedentary work. The employee is occasionally required to exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:  crouching, handling, distinguishing among sounds, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, stooping, talking, visual acuity in data/observations, and walking. Duties performed may cause light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing and sitting.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  
Work is performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands. Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as noise and interruptions or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.

Important Notice: As a condition of employment, all full time Central Arizona College employee’s automatically become members of the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). This is a pension system that requires mandatory contributions from the employee with a matching contribution from the employer.  The 26-27 fiscal year contribution rate is 11.98%.  Please note this rate is subject to change on a fiscal year basis. Membership to ASRS is a condition of employment and is not optional unless you are at least 65 years of age and meet the opt out eligibility requirements, or are a retiree from ASRS .
