Corporate Health & Safety Manager

Salary: £48,029.08 - 64,810.00

Hours: 35 hours per week

Working Pattern: Hybrid

The Role:

To lead and continuously improve health and safety management across multiple retirement communities consisting of care homes, domiciliary care services and residential accommodation; ensuring residents, colleagues, visitors, contractors and volunteers are protected from avoidable harm. The role provides competent health and safety advice, assurance and practical support to senior management and service managers, embedding safe systems of work, regulatory compliance and a positive safety culture across all Trust locations.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Act as the Competent Person for the Trust, providing expert advice and technical information to senior managers regarding legal obligations and compliance.
• Accountability for governance, board reporting and culture change
• Develop, maintain and monitor the Trust’s health and safety management system, developing, implementing and reviewing policies, procedures, standards & guidance to reflect current legislation, sector guidance and the operational needs of residential and care environments.
• Legal reporting of RIDDOR.
• Undertake a wide variety of general, manual handling and fire safety risk assessments; producing clear controls and safe systems of work.
• Support service managers to identify, assess and control key risks, including relating to moving and handling, falls, fire safety, water hygiene, hazardous substances, equipment safety and contractor activities.
• Plan and deliver a programme of health and safety audits, inspections and assurance visits, producing clear reports and working with managers to close actions in a timely and proportionate way.
• Monitor safety performance using statistical analysis; collating results and presenting data to senior management and committees as required.
• Undertake investigations of accidents, incidents and safety concerns; ensuring root causes are identified, statutory reporting requirements are met and learning is implemented and shared as appropriate.
• Design, coordinate and deliver health and safety training, briefings and guidance as required to ensure that colleagues understand their responsibilities and apply safe practice consistently.
• Be the main point of contact for enforcement agencies in matters relating to health, safety and fire.

 

About You:

We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate the following key skills and requirements:

Essential:

• Extensive experience of working in adult social care adult social care, healthcare, housing or other highly regulated environments  
• Ability to influence and support managers across multiple sites, balancing legal compliance with compassionate, person-centred care delivery.
• Recognised health and safety qualification, such as NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent.
• Chartered membership of IOSH or Cert-IOSH
• NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety (or equivalent) and wide experience of completing fire safety risk assessments in social care settings.
• Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and its application in adult social care residential/nursing and domiciliary environments.
• Experience of completing audits, inspections and incident investigations, with the ability to translate findings into practical improvement plans.
• Hold a recognised training qualification.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, training delivery and presentation of assurance information to senior stakeholders.
• Confident user of digital systems for recording, analysing and reporting health and safety activity, actions and performance trends.
• A full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle.

 

Desirable:

• P405 titled Management of Asbestos in Buildings (including Asbestos Removal).
• Experience of specialist compliance areas such as asbestos management, contractor control, CDM.
• City & Guilds Legionella Training for the Responsible Person or equivalent.
• Lead auditor qualification.
• Management level Food Hygiene qualification.
• Experience of working with health and safety management systems aligned to ISO 45001 or similar recognised standards.
• Experience of using digital compliance, audit or incident reporting platforms to monitor actions, trends and assurance outcomes.
• Experience of supporting emergency preparedness, business continuity planning and crisis response arrangements.

Salary Ranges:

£63,004.50 - £69,439.50
