Freight & Logistics Procurement Specialist

Overview

Lead and support strategic category initiatives including freight network optimization, supplier performance transformation, freight spend consolidation, sustainability programs, digital procurement projects, risk mitigation initiatives and logistics operating model improvements to deliver measurable value to PGCS. The role description is associated with the Freight and Logistics Category and will report to the Global Procurement Senior Manager for Freight and Logistics across PGCS

 

 

Responsibilities

 

 

• Supports the Global Category Senior Manager to create value, drive improvements, and realize savings across the regions/sites where PGCS operates.
• Executes the global category management strategy that supports the company's strategy and Global Supply Chain strategy.
• Provides input and recommendations to the business and Category Senior Manager including processes, systems and analysis of overall global spending to identify new opportunities for savings and efficiencies. This will include various RFx processes as well as contract development and supplier performance management with key suppliers within the subcategories e.g. road freight, airfreight, ocean freight, etc...
• Develops, grows and maintains trusted and collaborative relationships with business partners at the sites within procurement and supply chain, contracting team partners, internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure that Procurement remains as a valued partner, being appropriately involved in business decisions.
• Identify, develop and maintain relationships with strategic, global and critical suppliers to improve supplier performance and to ensure the most competitive total cost of ownership of goods and services globally is negotiated
• Develop, implement and drive opportunities to increase utilization of global suppliers through identification, communications, strategic sourcing and progress reporting. This includes supporting the development and accurate use of a tracking and measurement tools.
• Be the Champion for digital procurement and simplification agenda for the category. Develop strategy and continuous improvement opportunities that allows for better streamlining of tasks and processes’
• Collaborate with Global Procurement Senior Manager to institute metrics and reporting to monitor performance against department standards and “best in class” practices and benchmarks to continuously

• Develop and drive supplier performance management program for the Category Collaborate with category leads, plant procurement leads and business partners to identify suppliers in scope for the program (both global, regional and local), establish the measurement criteria and the frequency of two-way feedback between suppliers and PGCS.
• Lead and support day to day activities across the Category to ensure business continuity for PGCS
• Lead and support on special projects that impact the Category periodically and as required basis
• Identify, develop and lead strategic initiatives that improve cost, service, resilience, sustainability and operational efficiency across the global freight and logistics network.
• Partner with Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations and Procurement stakeholders to evaluate and implement network optimization opportunities.
• Leverage market intelligence, industry best practices and data analytics to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the category.
• Develop business cases and recommendations supporting strategic procurement and logistics transformation projects.
• Collaborate with suppliers to identify innovative solutions that improve service, reduce risk and enhance value delivery.

 

 

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Procurement, Business, Finance, Logistics, Engineering or a related discipline required.

Experience

• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics or Category Management roles.
• Experience within pharmaceutical, life sciences, healthcare, manufacturing or other regulated industries.
• Proven experience developing and executing sourcing strategies for freight and logistics categories at a regional and/or global level.
• Professional procurement or supply chain certifications preferred, including CIPS, CPSM, APICS / ASCM, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or above
• Experience managing competitive sourcing events, supplier negotiations, contract development and supplier relationship management.
• Experience managing logistics subcategories including transportation, warehousing, ocean freight, air freight, road freight, parcel and related logistics services.
• Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives without direct authority.
• Experience evaluating supplier performance and implementing continuous improvement programs that deliver measurable business results.
• Experience in executing end to end sourcing processes (RFx)
• Experience leading strategic projects such as Freight network optimization

Preferred Experience

• Proven negotiations and contract management skills
• Comfortable preparing and presenting recommendations and project output to more senior levels
• Ability to identify, quantify and effectively mitigate procurement risks in Freight and Logistics
• Ability to assimilate information, evaluate facts, determine alternative solutions to problems, and to reach and communicate sound management and business decisions
• Proven project management, planning and organizational skills
• Analytical skills with the ability to support others to understand market dynamics and business partner needs
• Presentation, verbal and written communication skill
