This hourly position is responsible for the daily operations of the Frisco Adventure Park.  This position helps supervise Tubing and Terrain Park Attendants, Snowmaking/Maintenance Operators and Medical Responders in the safe operation of the tubing hill, ski/ride hill, terrain park, skate park, and bike park during seasonal operations. The responsibilities include site set up, early season snowmaking; assist with construction of tubing hill, terrain park, ski/ride hill, grooming, daily operations, lift and rope tow operation, and overall safety of the Adventure Park year-round operations.

The Lead is responsible for delivering exceptional guest service through the Yurt safety video, loading and unloading lifts for both the tubing and ski/ride hill, terrain park rope tow, and controlling tubing lane entrance and egress. This position ensures there are always appropriate staffing levels on the tubing hill and is responsible for effectively rotating staff through the different stations and ensuring staff receive the appropriate breaks.  Coordinate and communicate daily with guest service staff to ensure seamless, safe, and effective Adventure Park Operations.  The Maintenance Lead will also assist with ski/ride hill operations, terrain park, special events, guest services, Recreation Department and other Adventure Park activities. Responsible for enforcing policies and procedures.  This position is also responsible for the daily summer operations of the bike park and skate park, and summer maintenance of the tubing hill and terrain park equipment and machinery.

Pay Grade 4: 

Budgeted hiring wage range = $27.22 - $34.02

Full wage range*=Min: $27.22, Mid: $34.02, Max: $40.83

*wage offer based on specific job experience and education

Essential Functions

  • Assists Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager with daily operations of the Adventure Park and staff management.

  • Monitors and maintains snow surfaces to ensure safe and consistent tubing/ski/ride conditions.  Performs all duties and responsibilities associated with the Town of Frisco’s Maintenance Operator position.
  • Engages in hands-on labor, in the overall maintenance of the site including but not limited to: magic carpet lift, snow guns, Bike Park, shoveling, digging, raking, irrigation, moving rocks, planting vegetation, screening, and moving dirt.
  • Operates machinery, trucks, UTV, power tools, chain saws, and hand tools to effectively carry out maintenance of the Peninsula Recreation Area (PRA).   Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work area which includes but is not limited to: pump house, yurt, tough shed, and maintenance facility.
  • Trail Building: Operation of heavy equipment (skid-steer, backhoe, compactor), use of trail construction tools (chainsaw, shovels, rakes, picks, Pulaski tools).
  • Daily tasks may include: minimizing risks, building terrain features to meet the demands of the guests, preventative maintenance, landscaping, cleaning, inventory recording of existing PRA infrastructure, and implementing safety precautions.
  • Assists Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager with hiring, training, supervising, coaching, disciplining, and evaluating staff both verbally and in writing.
  • Monitors tubing hill lanes for speed and safety precautions and adjust starting position or tubing clusters as necessary. Communicates with management on corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all opening and closing procedures of Frisco Adventure Park and Day Lodge are completed.
  • Communicate with management in a timely and professional manner verbally and in writing to resolve guest issues and ensure safety.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all Adventure Park guests by giving appropriate information, and directions and conducting all transactions with a smile, eye contact, and clear communication.
  • Inspects Frisco Adventure Park for possible hazards and takes steps to rectify any hazards. Communicate corrective actions in a timely manner to management.
  • Follow industry safety practices regarding the use of technical equipment. This includes but is not limited to, the magic carpet, snow guns, snowmobiles, snow blowers, and all other machinery.
  • Remains alert and vigilant to provide instructions to guests and identify possible problems requiring the immediate stoppage of the lift. Respond to incidents or emergencies as covered in the training manual. Report all incidents to management in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding all Adventure Park and Recreation Department programs, facilities, and services.
  • Answer repetitive questions, scenarios, and tasks with professionalism, politeness, and courtesy.
  • Interact with and maintain professional attitudes and relationships with guests, co-workers, and management in a positive, professional manner at all times using appropriate language and conversations.

Marginal Duties

  • Inform guests of Adventure Park safety practices, operating rules, and regulations and help to enforce these rules as necessary.  Also responsible for making sure guests are prepared for changing weather conditions.
  • Ensure the Day Lodge facility indoors and outdoors is clean, and well-maintained; items are well stocked, displayed, and presentable to guests throughout daily operations.
  • Enforces and maintains all Town of Frisco, Recreation and Culture Department, and Frisco Adventure Park policies and procedures including but not limited to grooming standards and uniform policies.
  • Work in a team-based environment supporting the Adventure Park, Recreation and Culture Department, the Town of Frisco, and the initiatives of the Director and Managers.
  • Enforces and utilizes on-slope communication equipment and processes to ensure appropriate communication, to ensure appropriate terrain supervision, safety response, and guest service.
  • Assist in all other aspects of Frisco Adventure Park operations as necessary.
  • If EMT Certified: Effectively performs all duties and responsibilities associated with the Town of Frisco’s EMT Job Description.

  • This position requires regular and reliable in-person attendance at the designated worksite as an essential function of the job. As a public servant, physical presence is necessary to effectively perform essential duties, support operational needs, collaborate with team members, provide direct service to the public and internal stakeholders, utilize on-site equipment and resources, and maintain effective communication, responsiveness, and accountability in serving the community.

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in recreation or related field     

Computer Operations:

  • Preferred: Microsoft Office and Teams 
  • Preferred: POS and booking systems

Licenses, Certifications  or Accreditations:

  • Required: CPR/AED & First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within the first 6 months or 1 month if seasonal/temporary position.  Training provided by the Town.)
  • Required: Valid Colorado Driver’s License
  • Preferred: Valid Colorado EMT Certification and/or WFR Medical Certification

Previous Work Experience:

  • Required: 1+ year/season experience operating surface lift, chairlift, and/or rope tow and basic level of maintenance associated
  • Required: 2+ year of guest service
  • Preferred: 1+ year/season experience working tubing operations
  • Preferred: 1+ year/season trail building experience
  • Preferred: 1+ year/season snowcat operations at a ski area or similar environment

Previous Supervisory Exercised:

  • Preferred: 1+ year in similar environment      

Language Ability:

  • Required: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Decision Making Ability: 

  • Required: Demonstrated ability to function independently and make sound and reasonable decisions in the absence of supervisory guidance.

Other:

  • Required: Ability to pass a background investigation.

  • The position requires the ability to travel over snow and ice in challenging weather conditions as well as working outdoors in extreme weather conditions for long periods of time up to 10 hours. 
  • This position also requires working outside in prolonged sun exposure with hot temperatures.
  • Physical demands include walking up and downhill on snow and ice, lifting and carrying heavy objects, safely moving snow guns, post-holing through snow, bending, shoveling, raking, pulling or pushing heavy objects, and standing for long periods of time.
  • Required to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and split shifts.
  • This position requires positive interaction with guests in a crowded and fast pace environment.
