Master Data Management Analyst – Legacy SAP MDG Support (MM & Business Partner)

Role Purpose

The Master Data Management (MDM) Analyst is responsible for the operational support, execution, governance, and continuous improvement of legacy SAP Master Data processes, with primary accountability for Material Master (MM) and Business Partner (BP/Vendor/Customer) domains.

The role ensures high-quality, compliant, and business-ready master data through execution of governance procedures, management of master data requests, issue resolution, workflow support, and data quality monitoring.

As part of the Enterprise MDM team, the analyst will support the current legacy ERP and MDG environment while contributing to the organization's SAP S/4HANA transformation roadmap. The role requires a strong understanding of master data processes in both traditional SAP ERP environments and S/4HANA master data concepts, enabling a smooth transition from legacy support into future-state S/4 operations.

Key Responsibilities

Legacy Master Data Operations & Support

• Execute day-to-day master data maintenance and governance processes for Material Master and Business Partner data objects.
• Support creation, change, extension, blocking, and deactivation requests across legacy SAP environments.
• Monitor and manage master data workflows, approvals, escalations, and exception handling.
• Ensure adherence to established master data policies, standards, and governance controls.
• Investigate and resolve master data defects, workflow issues, replication failures, and data inconsistencies.
• Support ServiceNow tickets, incidents, requests, and problem management activities within established SLAs.
• Coordinate with AMS providers, technical teams, and business stakeholders to resolve master data issues.

Material Master (MM) Support

• Maintain and govern material master records across procurement, manufacturing, logistics, and commercial processes.
• Support material creation, extension, classification, and lifecycle management activities.
• Perform data validation and quality checks across material-related attributes and organizational views.
• Support integration requirements across MM, SD, PP, WM/EWM, and Finance processes.
• Execute mass update and data remediation activities where required.

Business Partner (BP) Support

• Support creation and maintenance of customers, vendors, and business partner master data.
• Ensure accuracy of BP roles, relationships, partner functions, and organizational assignments.
• Perform duplicate checks, harmonization activities, and governance reviews.
• Support supplier and customer onboarding processes.
• Assist with compliance, audit, and regulatory requirements impacting business partner data.

Data Quality & Governance

• Monitor master data quality KPIs and identify data quality risks.
• Execute data profiling, validation, reconciliation, and cleansing activities.
• Perform root cause analysis of recurring master data issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Partner with business data owners and stewards to improve data quality and process compliance.
• Support governance forums, stewardship activities, and data quality reviews.
• Maintain governance documentation, business rules, and process standards.

Enhancement & Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve master data processes, controls, and user experience.
• Support implementation of enhancements and process optimization initiatives.
• Participate in testing, defect resolution, and release activities.
• Assist in documenting business requirements and translating them into actionable enhancements.
• Contribute to process standardization and automation initiatives.

S/4HANA Transition Support

• Support master data readiness activities for SAP S/4HANA transformation programs.
• Participate in data cleansing, harmonization, and migration initiatives.
• Develop understanding of SAP S/4HANA Business Partner and Material Master models.
• Support future-state MDG and governance processes during transition from legacy systems.
• Assist project teams with master data validation, testing, and cutover activities.
• Act as a bridge between legacy operations and future-state S/4 master data processes.

Required Experience

• 5+ years of experience in SAP Master Data Management, SAP Support, or Data Governance roles.
• Hands-on experience supporting Material Master and/or Vendor/Customer Master processes.
• Experience operating within SAP ECC or legacy SAP ERP environments.
• Experience working in global support or shared service environments.
• Exposure to SAP S/4HANA projects, migrations, implementations, or support activities is highly desirable.
• Experience working within ITIL-based service management processes.
