Description
Are you ready to make data trustworthy, well-managed and truly valuable across an organisation? As a Data Governance Senior Consultant at BDO, you will help organisations design and embed the frameworks, operating models and ways of working that keep data reliable, well-governed and fit for strategic and operational decision-making. Join a team that values expertise, client proximity and pragmatism, and contribute and lead high-impact data governance projects in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
What will you be doing?
In this role, you will act as a Data Governance expert across multiple projects and clients, designing and delivering all-round governance frameworks and operating models while helping teams grow their capabilities. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Collaborate with clients: Work closely with stakeholders to understand their data landscape, governance maturity, business requirements and strategic objectives
- Design governance frameworks & operating models: Develop and implement pragmatic, all-round data governance frameworks — policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and operating models — tailored to each organisation’s needs and level of maturity.
- Establish roles & accountability: Define and embed data ownership and stewardship structures, decision rights and governance bodies (councils, forums) that make governance stick.
- Improve data quality & management: Set up frameworks for data quality, metadata, lineage and master data, translating governance principles into practical, day-to-day ways of working.
- Improve decision performance: Identify opportunities to optimise data management processes, performance management and the overall governance operating model.
- Support change and adoption: Coach and train stakeholders to ensure strong adoption, cultural buy-in and the long-term value of the governance frameworks you put in place.
- Leverage BDO’s network: Collaborate with colleagues across Finance, IT, Risk, Strategy and other practices to deliver integrated, high-impact solutions for clients.
- Coach and enable teams: Contribute actively to peer coaching, knowledge sharing and team enablement, and support the growth of colleagues by spreading expertise, mentoring on the job and strengthening data governance capabilities across the team.
What do you bring to the table?
We are looking for someone who combines strong analytical skills with a consulting mindset and a passion for well-managed data. You bring:
- Relevant experience: 5+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management or a closely related field, ideally within a consulting or project-based environment, with a track record of leading initiatives end to end.
- Educational background: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data, Engineering, Business Economics or a related field.
- Language proficiency: Fluent in either French or Dutch, with a very good knowledge of English.
- Governance expertise: Solid experience designing and implementing data governance frameworks and operating models. Covering roles and responsibilities, policies, standards, data quality, metadata and stewardship, in a tool-neutral, process- and framework-first way.
- Balanced technical & advisory profile: Comfortable moving between hands-on technical understanding with light implementation work (data models, data platforms, data quality and metadata concepts) and advisory work on operating models, policies and governance strategy.
- Scalable delivery: Proven interest or expertise in scaling governance delivery through reusable templates, accelerators, best practices and automation where relevant.
- Business understanding: Ability to translate business needs and governance principles into practical, value-driven and adoptable solutions.
- Communication & leadership: Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with, and influence, both business and technical stakeholders up to senior level.
- Consulting skills: Strong problem-solving, project management and change management capabilities.
- Consulting exposure: Comfortable operating as a governance expert across several projects and clients in parallel, adapting quickly to different business contexts while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Motivation: A strong desire to help grow a data governance practice and actively contribute to its development.
What do we bring to the table?
According to our colleagues, it’s about team spirit, trust and the freedom to really make an impact. But decide for yourself:
- Culture: you join a team of experts who value respect, diversity and collaboration.
- Development: you choose the direction of your career; we support you with coaching and learning.
- Impact: responsibility and trust from day one, with backup when you need it.
- Growth: access to a wide range of training via our BDO Academy.
- Network: work on diverse clients and projects across business practices.
- Flexibility: flexible working hours and freedom to choose where you work.
- Wellbeing: attention to your physical and mental health.
- Proximity: an open culture where everyone is approachable.
- Salary: a competitive salary package with attractive benefits.
