We are looking to connect with Electrical Design Engineers for current and upcoming opportunities supporting data-centre and mission-critical projects across London and the South East.
Opportunities may be available with engineering consultancies, specialist contractors, data-centre developers, operators and organisations delivering complex electrical infrastructure projects.
The opportunity
Depending on the employer and project stage, you may contribute to new-build developments, campus expansions, equipment upgrades, capacity increases or live-environment refurbishment programmes.
Responsibilities may include:
- Producing and reviewing electrical designs for mission-critical facilities.
- Developing single-line diagrams, load schedules, cable calculations and equipment specifications.
- Designing low-voltage and medium-voltage power-distribution systems.
- Supporting the selection of transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS systems and power-distribution equipment.
- Carrying out load-flow, short-circuit, discrimination and voltage-drop studies.
- Developing resilient electrical architectures based on project uptime and redundancy requirements.
- Coordinating electrical designs with mechanical, architectural, structural, controls and fire-safety disciplines.
- Reviewing technical submissions, shop drawings and contractor proposals.
- Supporting tender documentation, cost estimates and equipment procurement.
- Attending design reviews, client meetings and technical workshops.
- Resolving design queries during construction.
- Supporting testing, commissioning and final handover.
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant regulations, standards and project requirements.
Technical exposure may include:
- High-voltage and low-voltage distribution.
- Uninterruptible power-supply systems.
- Standby generation.
- Automatic transfer systems.
- Power-distribution units and busway.
- Earthing and lightning protection.
- Protection and control.
- Electrical monitoring systems.
- Emergency lighting and life-safety power.
- Resilient N+1, N+N or concurrently maintainable infrastructure.
The profile
We are interested in engineers with experience in data centres, critical facilities or other technically demanding building-services environments.
Relevant backgrounds may include:
- Data-centre design.
- Mission-critical engineering.
- Large commercial developments.
- Healthcare facilities.
- Airports.
- Banking infrastructure.
- Advanced manufacturing.
- Industrial power systems.
Suitable candidates are likely to have:
- Experience in electrical design engineering or building-services design.
- A degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering or building services.
- The ability to produce or review electrical calculations and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of electrical regulations and industry standards.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary designs.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- The ability to manage deadlines across several project workstreams.
Experience using electrical design, calculation or building-information-modelling software may be beneficial.
Location and working arrangements
Opportunities will be centred around London, with some positions supporting projects in Slough, the Thames Valley and other data-centre locations across the South East.
Hybrid working may be available, although attendance at design meetings, project offices and construction sites is likely to form part of most positions.
Candidates based in London, West London, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Surrey or within practical commuting distance may be considered.
