SKI & RIDE SCHOOL TRAINER

Reports To: Ski & Ride School Training Supervisor, Ski & Ride School Manager 

Department: Ski & Ride School 

Status: Part-Time Seasonal (Winter 2026/2027)

Salary Range: $24/hr - $28/hr based on certification

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Ski & Ride School (SRS) Trainer position supports the professional development of instructors through effective training, mentorship, and leadership. Reporting to the SRS Training Supervisor, this position helps instructors strengthen their technical skills, teaching abilities, confidence, and overall understanding of SRS operations. Trainers are responsible for creating a positive and encouraging learning environment in which instructors feel supported and motivated to continue developing their abilities. They are expected to lead by example, maintain a professional and positive attitude, and consistently uphold all company values, policies, procedures, and teaching standards. Through strong communication and collaboration with instructors and leadership, the SRS Trainer contributes to a safe, knowledgeable, and successful SRS team that provides high-quality experiences for every guest.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Conduct on-snow and classroom-based training for ski and/or snowboard instructors. 
• Help instructors improve their skiing or snowboarding ability, technical knowledge, and teaching skills. 
• Train instructors in accordance with the PSIA/AASI teaching methods and fundamentals. 
• Prepare interested instructors for PSIA/AASI certification exams by providing relevant training, feedback, and guidance. 
• Train instructors to recognize and adapt to the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of each student. 
• Provide guidance on class management, lesson pacing, and student progression. 
• Teach effective communication techniques, including appropriate terminology, explanations, demonstrations, and talking points. 
• Maintain safety and security as top priorities during all training activities. 
• Observe instructors and provide clear, respectful, and constructive feedback. 
• Maintain a positive attitude and encourage instructors to continue developing their skills, knowledge, and confidence. 
• Communicate instructor needs, concerns, and individual progress to the SRS Training Supervisor and management. 
• Recommend training topics and constructive improvements that support the continued development of instructors and SRS operations. 
• Consistently follow and represent all company values, policies, procedures, and teaching standards. 
• Instruct lessons when needed during exceptionally busy times. 
• Demonstrate professionalism, preparedness, teamwork, and strong guest-service standards. 
• Serve as a positive role model and always lead by example.
• Adhere to and enforce child safety laws and mandated reporting.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support SRS operations.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain an exceptional level of guest service in all interaction with guests, fellow employees, and management.
• Deliver internal reviews of interdepartmental staff abilities to corresponding supervisors and managers.
• Assist in fitting rental gear for guests, following industry technical standards.
• Ability to work with children, instructors, and other employees in a team environment.
• Assist and support other departments for events and operations on high volume days.
• Ability to multitask and shift from inside to outdoor job duties in a timely manner.
• Available to work weekends and peak periods, if needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: 

• Must be able to ski/snowboard double black diamond level runs proficiently to teach lessons and train staff. 
• Must have strong communication skills and interact courteously with staff and guests. 
• Must exhibit excellent leadership skills. 
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude when communicating with guests, students, and staff.
• Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
• Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Actively looking for ways to help people.
• Ability to speak, read, and write in English fluently. Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish is preferred.
• Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
• Know how to load and unload a ski lift safely. 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or equivalent required. College degree is preferred.
• PSIA/AASI Level 2 is required. PSIA/AASI Level 3 is strongly preferred.
• PSIA/AASI Children Specialist Level 1 is required. PSIA/AASI Children Specialist Level 2 is strongly preferred.
• 5+ years teaching snow sports lessons is required. 
• Previous experience working with children required.
• Additional PSIA-AASI certifications (Adaptive, Telemark, Freestyle Specialist, etc.), strongly preferred but not required. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Must be physically capable of performing strenuous exercise at 8,000-10,000 feet with variable weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
• Dexterity for utilizing keyboard, hand tools, ski equipment, kitchen equipment, etc.
• Verbal and auditory abilities necessary for communication with others.
• Provide own ski/ride equipment, clothing, and accessories necessary for work outdoors in high alpine winter environment other than company provided equipment.
• Weekend and/or holiday work required.

Granby Ranch is located in Granby, Colorado (90 miles northwest of Denver) and all jobs are performed on site. Employee housing is available for full-time seasonal and year-round employees.  This position is part-time and does not qualify for employee housing.
