Position Summary
The Maintenance and Engineering Manager provides leadership and oversight for the plant’s maintenance and engineering functions, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment and facilities. This position manages a team of maintenance technicians, project engineers, production engineers, and CI engineers, and drives the execution of maintenance strategies, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The role is based in Englewood, Ohio and supports personal care, food, and pharmaceutical products.
The position requires a strong background in reliability analysis, a results-oriented focus to improve mechanical integrity and equipment reliability, and the ability to help develop the most effective technologies for specific processes and drive standardization of equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development:
Directly manage maintenance technicians, project engineers, production engineers, and CI engineers, providing coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
Develop the department’s technical capabilities and succession planning.
Maintenance, Reliability & Mechanical Integrity:
Lead reliability analysis programs and implement strategies to improve mechanical integrity and equipment reliability.
Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for plant equipment and facilities at both sites.
Ensure equipment reliability and uptime targets are met, minimizing unplanned downtime.
Implement maintenance best practices, including CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
Help identify and implement the most effective technologies for specific processes and drive standardization of equipment across sites where feasible.
Engineering & Continuous Improvement:
Partner with engineering teams to support process improvement, process automation, and capital project execution across both sites.
Lead root cause investigations for equipment failures and implement sustainable corrective actions.
Drive the plant’s continuous improvement culture through Lean, Six Sigma, and other CI initiatives.
Capital Projects & Equipment Upgrades:
Plan, coordinate, and oversee installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment.
Support the capital budget for both sites, including Englewood, Ohio, and the second site near Pittsburgh, PA.
Manage budgets, schedules, and resources for capital projects.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all maintenance and engineering activities comply with OSHA, FDA, GMP, ISO, and internal safety standards.
Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with operations, QA/QC, supply chain, and R&D to support production, process validation, and product introduction at both batch manufacturing sites.
Communicate effectively with corporate leadership regarding maintenance performance, reliability initiatives, capital projects, and continuous improvement efforts.
Education & Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
10+ years of experience in plant maintenance, engineering, or operations in batch manufacturing facilities for personal care, food, or pharmaceutical products.
Proven leadership experience managing maintenance technicians, project engineers, production engineers, and CI engineers.
Knowledge, Skills, & Talents
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in reliability analysis, mechanical integrity, preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, and CMMS systems.
Demonstrated ability to drive results to improve equipment reliability and mechanical integrity, develop the most effective technologies for specific processes, and standardize equipment across sites where possible.
Experience managing capital projects, equipment upgrades, and process improvement initiatives, including oversight of multiple sites.
Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Pay and Benefits
The estimated base pay range for this position is: $110,000 - $140,000 annually. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, qualifications, skills and geographic location. This position is eligible to participate in a short-term incentive program.
