Reporting to the Director for Auxiliary Services Operations, the Manager of Recycling and Auxiliary Services assists in establishing and supporting Auxiliary Services goals and long-term strategies that support the stated mission of Campus Services and Emory University. May assume leadership role of Auxiliary Services in absence of Director.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers and ensures compliance with policies and procedures of Emory University and any applicable governmental agencies.
  • Responsible for daily oversight of the Recycling team for Auxiliary Services including Emory's Zero Landfill Initiative.
  • Manages Recycling team including supporting personnel issues, managing professional development, implementing departmental training programs, and supporting hiring, time and attendance, and staff performance evaluations.
  • Assists with the preparation of the annual departmental budgets and oversight of monthly budgets by identifying needs and managing revenues and expenditures and reconciliation of departmental recharges.
  • Provides support of reporting and oversight of Auxiliary Services key performance indicators (KPI's). Serves as operational point of contact and coordinator for both internal and external Emory University, Healthcare, and clinic customers.
  • Oversees special event coordination, logistics, and event staff support required for university events.
  • Events may include but are not limited to large-scale gala and community awareness events, alumni reunion events, building dedications, university-wide events including commencement, orientation, family weekend events.
  • Supports customer service to all university and auxiliary customers; provides accurate and timely follow through on all customer inquiries.
  • Responsible for customer support for the recycling department.
  • Communicates with staff to ensure work orders are processed on time and labor completed for all campus customers.
  • Communicates regularly with all stakeholder groups to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Manages work order backlog and involves contractors or vendors to supply customer needs when necessary.
  • Supports departmental oversight and purchasing of equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains Auxiliary Services equipment inventory, fleet, and maintenance records.
  • Assists in facility, equipment, and vehicle management assessments and maintenance.
  • Ensures that fleet is maintained for safe operations and that all federal, state, and local regulatory compliance requirements are met and specifically DOT transportation compliance guidelines.
  • Responsible for maintaining database for confidential document shredding customer schedules and adhering to all HIPAA guidelines to ensure protocols met for proper chain of custody for Emory university, healthcare, and clinic customers.
  • Remains knowledgeable of Emory University's goals regarding landfill waste diversion.
  • Assists with route management to provide recycling data that supports Emory's Zero Landfill Initiative and associated metrics required for landfill diversion annual and monthly reporting.
  • Maintains understanding of Emory's Environmental Health and Safety Office expectations and protocols for biosafety and management of waste streams.
  • Adheres to and complies with Emory University safety and security standards.
  • Ensures a clean, safe work environment in compliance with university standards as well as federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Responsible for departmental reporting including weekly production and work order reports, pest control and fleet inspections, daily time report (DTR's) and any other required reporting necessary to meet departmental expectations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of experience in an operations or logistics role in a recycling, materials management, or related industry, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to attain HIPAA certification as a condition of employment with experience working in a NAID (National Association for Information Destruction) certified facility preferred.
  • Experience in special event operations management is preferred.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
