Description

Description

The District Manager builds consistently successful, manager-led stores that achieve KPIs and financial success as well as creating an environment that supports our culture and core values. You'll set clear goals for every store, make sure each Store Manager consistently has a documented plan to reach them, and follow through until results hold. District Managers will be evaluated on the individual store results within their district.

In this role, you will be expected to coach, mentor, teach, train and develop store leadership members leading to successful business results. In some instances, District Managers will be expected to take an active role in store processes to ensure basic expectations are met. Long term success means your Store Managers can plan, lead their teams, hit goals, solve problems, and develop people without constant intervention from you.

Key Responsibilities

Business results and financial performance

• Own district results, including net profit, customers versus budget, weekly expected versus budget, percentage of rent collected, COGS, and payroll.

• Review each store's results against budget, separate short-term swings from real trends, and set store-specific actions to close gaps.

• Report key store metrics and improvement plans to leadership on a regular cadence.

• Teach Store Managers to make staffing, scheduling, inventory, sales, account-retention, and expense decisions.

• Ensure Store Managers maintain adequate staffing, prepare four-week schedules, and maintain accurate payroll records. Review coverage, labor costs, and overtime needs, and coordinate staffing support between stores when necessary.

Store planning and goal achievement

• Make sure every store knows its top three priorities and has a current written action plan.

• Require plans with a baseline, target, leading activities, named owners, checkpoint dates, and status.

• Address missed commitments with a decision rather than carrying them forward.

• Develop an annual district plan and translate budgets into quarterly, monthly, and weekly goals.

Store visits and operational follow-through

• Visit stores on an established rotation, prioritized by need and risk.

• Review exceptions and compliance, account retention, inventory and operations, store appearance and merchandising, and cash controls.

• Coach the Store Manager in real time and leave every visit with no more than three priority actions, each with an owner and due date.

• Verify completion of prior action items so each visit builds on the last.

• Hold Store Managers accountable for safe delivery practices, company vehicle care, required inspections, and employee safety procedures. Verify that accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions are reported and addressed promptly.

• Verify that Store Managers maintain inventory accuracy, appropriate merchandise presentation, timely refurbishment of returned merchandise, and functioning equipment. Coordinate with Operations to resolve issues beyond the store’s control.

People leadership and development

• Coach, develop, and hold Store Managers accountable without taking over their ownership.

• Complete evidence-based semi-annual Store Manager evaluations.

• Lead structured improvement, development, and stretch plans with 30-, 60-, and 90-day checkpoints.

• Oversee staffing, hiring pipelines, training progress, and promotion readiness across the district.

• Build bench strength for Store Manager and future district-level roles.

• Partner with Store Managers and Human Resources on employee evaluations, coaching, corrective action, and employee concerns. Ensure issues are addressed promptly, documented appropriately, and handled consistently with company expectations.

• Review turnover, staffing stability, and employee feedback with Store Managers and Human Resources. Hold Store Managers accountable for actions that improve onboarding, employee engagement, development, and retention.

• Ensure Store Managers conduct effective daily team meetings, communicate company priorities, recognize achievements, and provide regular feedback that supports employee development and a positive work environment.

Training on company best practices and processes

• Teach Store Managers and their teams the company's standard processes, policies, and best practices, and confirm they are applied consistently.

• Train managers to train their own staff, so new hires and promoted team members learn the right way to do the work.

• Use store visits to teach in the moment, demonstrating the correct process rather than just pointing out the gap.

• Track training and certification progress, and check that training is retained and shows up in daily execution.

• Roll out new or updated company processes to every store and verify adoption.

Standards, culture, and compliance

• Protect operational, customer-service, financial, and cultural standards across every store.

• Ensure growth never comes at the expense of customer treatment, compliance, company procedures, or core values.

• Identify strong practices, document them, and replicate them across the district.

• Diagnose the root cause before intervening, whether it's clarity, skill, resources, process, staffing, or follow-through.

• Monitor customer-service standards across the district, support Store Managers in resolving escalated concerns, and address recurring issues affecting customer satisfaction and retention.

• Ensure Store Managers and their teams consistently follow approved payment-collection and account-retention procedures, treat customers respectfully, and meet applicable compliance requirements.

Perform other duties as assigned to support business operations and team

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• 3+ years of multi-unit retail management experience, or 5+ years as a successful Store Manager

• Proven record of hitting sales, profit, and collections or account-retention goals.

• Experience in hiring, coaching, evaluating, and documenting performance for managers or supervisors.

• Strong working knowledge of P&L statements, budgets, payroll, and inventory controls.

• Comfortable with weekly reporting, spreadsheets, and store systems.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Valid driver’s license, a motor vehicle record insurable by our provider, and reliable transportation for daily travel between stores.

What we look for:

• Planner and finisher: turns goals into written plans with owners and deadlines, then follows up until the work is done.

• Coach first: asks the Store Manager for the plan before supplying the answer.

• Evidence-based: makes decisions from data and observed behavior and applies the same standards to every store.

• Direct and composed: gives clear, timely feedback and stays constructive under pressure.

• Accountable: owns district outcomes, addresses persistent issues early, and documents meaningful conversations.

• Trustworthy: maintains confidentiality and sound professional judgment.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

• Field-based role with frequent travel between stores in the district; occasional overnight travel for meetings or training.

• Schedule follows business needs, including some evenings and weekends based on needs of the business.

• Work in retail showrooms, backrooms, and warehouse areas, including inspecting merchandise and vehicles.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and safely lift, move, and carry up to 50 pounds independently, with or without reasonable accommodation. Heavier items must be handled with team assistance or appropriate safety equipment.
