Your role and responsibilities

ABB is the global market leader in variable frequency drives. ABB’s Drive Products division in Helsinki is continuously investing in variable-frequency drive development to further enhance our market leading drive portfolio.

 

We are seeking an experienced power electronics design professional to contribute to the development of our future portfolio. This role is based in Helsinki. We offer a hybrid work model and value in-person collaboration, so the role includes regular office-based working in Pitäjänmäki.

 

Depending on your experience you may report to the local R&D Team Leader, local Head of R&D, or Global Head of R&D.

Qualifications for the role

• M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or equivalent field.
• Several years of practical experience in power electronics hardware design and development for industrial drives or equivalent power conversion products.
• Proven track record of delivering multiple product architectures from concept to mass production.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken). Finnish language skills are a benefit.
• Valid working permit to Finland.

Preferred

• Capability to lead technical work in global, multicultural R&D environments.
• Advanced experience in LV converter topologies (VSI, AFE, B6 bridge, multilevel), gate driver design, EMC/EMI, thermal management, and power passive design.
• Experience with WBG semiconductors (SiC, GaN) in industrial applications.
• Experience with model-based design tools (MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice, PLECS, or similar).
• Deep familiarity with key standards, including the IEC 61800 series, CE/UL/cUL requirements, and EMC directives.
• Experience in patent authorship in power electronics.
• Familiarity with ABB Motion products.
