Description
When Assigned to Street Maintenance:
- Work as part of a street maintenance crew; construct, repair, set and maintain asphalt and/or concrete; shovel and spread asphalt and asphalt base in patching, repairing and reconstructing streets; break and remove concrete and asphalt; perform rough carpentry work;
- Assist in setting line stakes and boards for concrete pours; assist in pouring and finishing concrete; assist with masonry repair work; and
- Design and print traffic and specialty signs; laminate and apply to metal blanks; maintain the computerized equipment, including the printer, laminator, and plotter; paint and stripe City streets and curbs; install City signposts and signs; install pavement markers.
When Assigned to Beach Maintenance:
- Clean, adjust, rebuild, maintain, and replace tide valves; patrol tides area and open and shut tide valves along an assigned route; inspect and clear obstructions from storm drains;
- Clean out fire rings; empty, pressure wash, and replace trash cans; put up, maintain, and take down wind fencing at beach ends;
- Operate water pumping equipment at street ends and parking lots during high tides and rainy conditions;
- Check pier and dock structures for damage; make routine repairs and/or notify superiors of the need for more extensive maintenance; and
- Clean up debris and refuse from parking lots, walkways, ditches, alleys, streets, beach areas, and storm drains using appropriate equipment; move or remove sand from beaches and sidewalks.
- Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review of applications on October 15, 2026. The recruitment will remain open until the position is filled.
- Virtual Interview: Tentatively scheduled for the week of October 26, 2026. Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
