The Office of the District Attorney is currently accepting applications for the position of

Deputy District Attorney III - Consumer Protection Unit

Future Salary Increases:

** June 2027 – 3.65% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 0.65% Market Adjustment)

**Civil litigation experience, or work with Regulatory or Licensing agencies, is highly desirable**

This recruitment will be used to focus on filling upcoming positions within the Consumer Protection Unit of the District Attorney’s Office. The eligibility list from this recruitment may also be used to fill future positions in other units so long as the eligibility list remains valid.

This is series recruitment that will be suspended on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

Deputy District Attorney III is the journey level class of its series.  Incumbents share with higher level attorneys in prosecuting criminal or civil cases consisting of murder, conspiracy, sexual assault, fraud or civil enforcement actions; these cases involve a high degree of public interest and complex legal principles.  A Deputy District Attorney III may also supervise a team of junior deputies.

Hiring Timeline & Dates

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below. 

• Job Offer and Background Process begins shortly after the interviews conclude.
• Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
• Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date

Minimum Qualifications:

Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California; AND, 

1. One (1) year of experience as a Deputy District Attorney II in the County of San Diego, or at an equivalent level with another California county or California city prosecutorial agency; OR,
2. Three (3) years of experience as an attorney in the practice of criminal and/or civil law.

Condition of Employment

As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.  
 

Evaluation
Qualified applicants will be placed on a nine (9) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications.
