Description
Facilities Maintenance Assistant
Full or Part Time; No Nights or Weekends
Do you like fixing things, solving problems, and seeing the results of your work at the end of the day? Chambliss Center for Children is looking for a Facilities Maintenance Assistant to join our team in Chattanooga. We’re a nonprofit that serves children, youth, and families around the clock, every day of the year, and our buildings have to be safe and in good repair for that care to happen. You’ll travel between our agency locations to keep them in great shape.
We don’t expect you to be an expert in every trade. If you’re reliable, good with tools, and eager to learn, we’ll provide the training to help you grow your building maintenance skills.
Your Schedule and Pay
- Choose full time (40 hours/week) or part time (25–32 hours/week)
- Daytime hours, Monday through Friday
- No weekend shifts and no on-call schedule (after-hours calls are rare and only for emergencies or urgent repairs)
- $17–$20/hour, depending on your skills and experience
- Agency work truck to drive during your shift
Benefits for Full-Time Staff
- Generous paid time off
- Free telehealth services
- Employer-funded Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)
- Retirement plan with employer match
- Discounted childcare
- On-the-job training and opportunities to advance
A Typical Day Might Include
- Working through maintenance requests and scheduled preventive maintenance
- Assisting with repairs in areas such as plumbing, basic electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC
- Walking through facilities to spot and report repair needs or safety hazards
- Assembling, relocating, and fixing furniture, fixtures, and equipment
- Handling urgent repairs when they come up
- Keeping our buildings clean, safe, and running well
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Able to use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely
- Some knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or HVAC, plus a desire to keep learning
- Preferred: 1+ year of experience in building maintenance, construction, or handyman work
- Reliable, motivated, and comfortable working on your own as you travel between sites
- Must pass a fingerprint background check, since this role works around children
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and ladder climbing
- Lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs
- Working both inside and outdoors in all kinds of weather
- Driving to agency sites across the Chattanooga area
