Cloud Engineer

Are you a results driven cloud professional with a passion for building secure, scalable infrastructure? Join our Infrastructure team as a Cloud Engineer in Plattekloof, where you'll design, implement and maintain Herotel's cloud environments across AWS, Azure and GCP.
This role is perfect for a hands on cloud specialist who thrives on solving complex infrastructure challenges and wants to play a key role in driving our cloud first strategy forward.

What you'll do:

• Design, deploy and maintain cloud infrastructure including virtual machines, networking, storage, containerized and platform services
• Monitor the performance, cost and security of all cloud services, with special focus on the AWS environment using cloud native tools and open source solutions
• Implement and manage hybrid cloud connectivity between on premises infrastructure and our hybrid clouds (AWS, Azure and GCP)
• Manage, monitor and routinely verify backups for cloud environments, with special focus on AWS services, ensuring recoverability
• Manage identity, access and security policies through governance and best practices
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc) where applicable
• Contribute to, maintain and document cloud architecture, standards and procedures
• Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery solutions with scheduled testing
• Maintain an up to date asset inventory, cost dashboard and incident register across all cloud environments
• Manage real time cloud incidents to minimise operational business impact and maximise service availability
• Deliver cloud migration and modernisation projects as directed by the Head of Infrastructure and IT Project Manager

What you'll need:

• A Bachelor's Degree in IT, Computer Science or a similar qualification
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud engineering, with strong hands on AWS and Azure administration experience
• Working knowledge of cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, networking, storage and security)
• Experience with hybrid cloud integration (Azure Arc, VPN, ExpressRoute, Direct Connect)
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates)
• Experience with cloud DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
• Scripting experience in PowerShell, BASH or Python
• Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes, Container Apps)
• Experience with Windows and Linux server administration
• Microsoft Azure certifications (AZ 104, AZ 305) advantageous
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate or AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer Associate advantageous
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional advantageous
• The ability to work effectively in a multi disciplinary team or independently with minimal direction
• High energy, self motivation, flexibility and the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non technical people
