Position Summary:     

The Senior Contracts Analyst will support commercial contracting activities across APAC and/or Greater China, partnering closely with Legal, Finance, Sales, Customer Care, Service and Support, Sales Management, and Territory Account Managers. This role is responsible for reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts, tenders, and order-related terms in a practical, business-focused manner. The successful candidate will bring sound judgment, strong stakeholder engagement, and the ability to assess contractual risk while enabling commercial outcomes. The role may also provide guidance to junior team members and contribute to process improvement initiatives within the Sales Contracts function.
    

Position Responsibilities: 

General Contract

  • Partner with the sales team to draft amendments to Illumina’s standard terms of business where required by customers.
  • Assess contractual risk in a commercially focused, business-oriented manner that supports balanced and practical decision-making.
  • Lead negotiations on proposed terms and conditions relating to Illumina goods and services with customers.
  • Review and process instrument and consumable orders, including assessing order terms, negotiating amendments where needed, and recording key terms in Salesforce.com.
  • Take ownership of contract-related matters, ensuring timely follow-through and effective stakeholder communication.
  • Ensure contracts are approved, documented, and executed in accordance with Illumina policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and provide support when priorities or workload require.
  • Attending departmental team meetings as requested from time to time.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members on contract-related activities.
  • Work on matters of diverse scope, applying sound judgment to evaluate information, identify solutions, and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • Take a proactive approach to managing assigned matters and maintaining close communication with relevant Contract Analysts and stakeholders.

Order and Tenders:

  • Review, negotiate, draft, and advise on agreements for the sale of Illumina instruments, consumables, maintenance, and software, including agreements based on Illumina or customer terms and conditions.
  • Coordinate required documentation for tender submissions, including completion of standard pre-qualification questionnaires and related materials.
  • Review tender documentation, support tender response submissions, and provide contracting advice relating to the supply of Illumina products and services.
  • Assess the commercial, financial, and revenue recognition impact of negotiated or tender terms, working with FP&A, Revenue Recognition, Sales, Customer Care, and Service and Support as needed to manage identified risks and issues.
  • Evaluate finalized terms and conditions to support revenue recognition assessment, documenting rationale and coordinating confirmation with FP&A and the Revenue Recognition team where required.
  • Maintain and update contract processes, templates, terms and conditions, and related documentation, ensuring relevant stakeholders are informed as needed.
  • Provide training to Sales Contracts, Sales, Customer Care, Quotes new hires, and other internal stakeholders on contract processes.
  • Assist other team members who may need support.
  • Build effective business partner relationships with internal stakeholders to support efficient contract execution.
  • Monitor the Contracts Admin inbox and ensure assigned matters are triaged, allocated, and addressed promptly.

Projects:

  • Represent the Sales Contracts team in projects that impact sales contracting processes, workflows, or operations.
  • Obtain input from, and provide training to, other members of the Sales Contracts team relating to the projects.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of company sales and contracting processes.
  • Organize, attend, and document stakeholder meetings relating to sales contracting processes.
  • Support project management activities within the Sales Contracts team, including initiatives related to operations, workflows, and cross-functional processes.

Position Requirements: 

Business Expertise

  • Seasoned contracts professional with strong understanding of commercial contracting principles and related business processes.
  • Ability to quickly understand business objectives and manage multiple matters, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve a wide range of issues using sound judgment, creativity, and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience handling a variety of complex commercial deals and contract negotiations.

Company Expertise

  • Experience in the sale of diagnostic medical devices, life sciences products, software, or related regulated products is desirable.
  • Experience with Salesforce.com or other CRM systems is desirable.
  • Familiarity with public institution procurement processes and tender requirements is preferred.

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills: 

  • Minimum of 5–8 years of experience reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and finalizing a range of commercial and/or legal documents.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple contract negotiations and projects simultaneously.
  • An understanding of the contracting process including contract evaluation, negotiation, approval, tracking and close-out.
  • Ability to coordinate large, multi-faceted projects with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and demonstrate sound judgment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Sales, Customer Care, Service and Support, and Legal.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce.com and Apttus is a plus.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in law, business, software, or a related field; equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
