Why choose us?

Our founding company was built more than 50 years ago and has a legacy of welcoming new employees with our commitment to provide the best place to work by inspiring financial security and premier health and wellness programs for you and your family while enjoying an adventurous and dynamic culture.

Our employees’ commitment to protecting the environment is intrinsic and deeply rooted, both individually and collectively at Brice, giving you purpose driven work that is impactful.

What does Brice Engineering do?

For Brice Engineering, it’s not just about answering the mail. It’s about your long-term success and ability to run your mission seamlessly with minimal to no snags along the way. We are enthusiastic and have fun doing what we do. We love the diversity and dynamic nature of opportunities in this business. Everything from navigating the logistical puzzle of an environmental site investigation on the remote Aleutian Island chain, to designing and building a state-of-the art facility gets us excited!

What can you expect?

As a Process Safety Engineer, you will work in Anchorage, AK supporting the Donlin Gold project through technical assessment and review of critical design plans and documents. The Process Safety Engineer will work with key Personnel from the operating company, partner companies, and prime contractors to ensure that Pre FEED and FEED design plans meet regulatory and industry standards for process safety. Initiative and critical thinking skills are essential to completing job duties with minimal guidance.  Must be able to set priorities, take ownership of tasks, work efficiently and provide a consistent level of high-quality work in a high-pressure environment. This individual must have the ability to communicate effectively with project teams and stakeholders and represent the Company with the utmost professionalism.

How will you do it?

  • Review development plans and design packages at each stage gate (concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility, FEED, detailed design) for process safety adequacy.
  • Ensure process safety deliverables appropriate to each phase are complete before the project advances.
  • Apply inherently safer design principles early — eliminate, minimize, substitute, and moderate hazards at the design stage rather than adding protection layers later.
  • Challenge layout, siting, and configuration decisions while they are still cheap to change (equipment spacing, occupied building location, escape routes, segregation of hazardous inventories).
  • Facilitate and review phase-appropriate hazard studies: HAZID at concept, HAZOP once P&IDs mature, LOPA for safety-critical scenarios.
  • Verify major accident hazards are identified for the proposed development (tailings containment, reagent storage and handling, dust/gas, energy isolation).
  • Confirm consequence and risk assessments support the design basis and demonstrate risk is reduced to ALARP.
  • Ensure hazard study actions are tracked and closed out before the next gate.
  • Verify the design meets applicable codes, standards, and company specifications (hazardous area classification, pressure systems, structural, fire protection).
  • Review the safety design basis and confirm safe operating limits, relief and blowdown philosophy, and containment provisions are defined.
  • Confirm regulatory and permitting requirements are reflected in the design and that required safety documentation is being produced.
  • Review specifications of safety instrumented systems and required SIL levels.
  • Assess adequacy of fire and gas detection, emergency shutdown, relief, and containment/bunding provisions.
  • Evaluate the alarm and control philosophy for the proposed facility.
  • Confirm layers of protection are sufficient and not over-reliant on procedural controls.
  • Assess maintainability and operability — access, isolation points, sampling, drainage — from a safety standpoint.
  • Apply management-of-change discipline to changes in scope, design, or basis as the project develops.
  • Verify design assumptions and safety-critical decisions are documented and traceable.
  • Coordinate with process, mechanical, civil/geotechnical, controls, and mine planning disciplines to close safety gaps at interfaces.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
