What's the Project?
Our client is a well-established company in the luxury retail industry undergoing a significant technology transformation. Newfire is taking ownership of the client's engineering ecosystem, including its core e-commerce platform, multiple online storefronts, and ERP integrations, with the goal of modernizing the platform and dramatically accelerating software delivery.
As part of this engagement, we're building a team of experienced engineers who enjoy solving complex technical challenges, improving large production systems, and working through real-world technical debt. This is not a greenfield project—it's an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by increasing reliability, scalability, and development velocity across a business-critical platform.
Your day-to-day activities:
- Take part in Scrum ceremonies (daily stand-up, retrospective, planning)
- Design, develop, test, and maintain both backend (Java/Spring Boot) and frontend (React/Next.js) functionality.
- Continuously improve the existing production codebase by reducing technical debt and increasing maintainability.
- Refactor complex legacy components while ensuring comprehensive automated test coverage.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, QA, and fellow Engineers to deliver high-quality customer-facing features.
- Collaborate with Quality Assistance (QA) to write end-to-end tests and own the full life-cycle of feature development from planning to production deployment.
- Review code, provide constructive feedback, and actively contribute to improving engineering standards.
- Take ownership of features from implementation through deployment and production support.
- Be proactive in identifying opportunities for technical improvements and process optimization.
- Stay current with modern development practices and leverage AI-powered development tools to improve productivity and code quality.
- Be accountable for delivering reliable, scalable, and maintainable software that provides business value.
- As a Senior team member, you will be expected to actively participate in our hiring processes by serving on interview panels for future roles across the company.

You’re a perfect match if you have:
- trong Full Stack Expertise: 6+ years of professional software development experience building and maintaining production applications.
- Java & Spring Boot: Strong hands-on experience with Java (Java 11+), Spring Boot, and modern backend development. Experience working with both legacy and modernized systems is highly valued.
- Frontend Development: Strong experience with React, TypeScript, and Next.js, building scalable, maintainable frontend applications.
- Database Skills: Solid experience working with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including SQL development, data modeling, and performance optimization.
- Persistence Layer: Experience with JPA/Hibernate and database migration tools such as Flyway or similar.
- Large Production Systems: Proven experience maintaining and modernizing large existing codebases while continuing to deliver new customer-facing features.
- Testing Mindset: Strong commitment to writing and maintaining automated tests, especially when refactoring legacy code.
- Problem Solving: Ability to safely refactor complex systems, improve code quality, and reduce technical debt without disrupting production.
- AI-Assisted Development: Experience using modern AI coding tools to improve productivity through workflows such as AI-assisted code review, test generation, context management, or custom development agents.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within cross-functional Agile teams.
- Ownership: Ability to independently own features from design through production deployment while maintaining high engineering standards.
