Description

Earlier this year, Unilever announced an agreement to combine its Foods business with McCormick & Company, creating a scaled global flavour powerhouse. The proposed combination would bring together iconic Foods brands, including Hellmann’s and Knorr, with McCormick’s portfolio to create a global leader across spices, seasonings, condiments and complementary food categories, supported by strong retail and foodservice platforms. McCormick brings more than 135 years of heritage, a presence in 150+ countries and territories, and a portfolio of trusted brands. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, with completion estimated for mid-2027

Job Title: Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager (Taiwan and Hong Kong)

Function: Communications & Corporate Affairs

Scope: Taiwan and Hong Kong

Country Location and Worksite Details: Taipei, Taiwan; with responsibility for Hong Kong

JOB PURPOSE

Lead the Communications and Corporate Affairs agenda for the Foods business across Taiwan and Hong Kong, with a balanced focus on external communications, reputation and issues management, public affairs and stakeholder engagement. Translate business priorities into clear communications and external engagement plans, strengthen preparedness for emerging issues, and provide practical counsel to business leaders.

This is a Taiwan-based position, and the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting work across Taiwan and Hong Kong. We kindly encourage applicants to consider this requirement before applying.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communications and Corporate Affairs Planning: Develop and execute integrated communications and corporate affairs plans for Taiwan and Hong Kong, aligned with business priorities and regional and global direction. Define priority audiences, messages, channels, timelines and measures, and maintain clear governance and approval processes.
  • Public Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain appropriate relationships with relevant government authorities, trade associations and industry stakeholders. Coordinate policy and stakeholder engagement on selected business priorities, with clear objectives, internal alignment and follow-up.
  • External Environment Monitoring: Monitor relevant regulatory, policy, industry and media developments affecting the food sector, assess potential business and reputational implications, and provide timely, actionable updates to internal stakeholders across both markets.
  • Reputation, Issues and Crisis Communications: Lead communications preparedness and response for emerging issues and reputational risks. Develop scenarios, holding statements, media FAQs and escalation routes, and coordinate with business leaders and regional Communications and Corporate Affairs teams during incidents.
  • Media and External Communications: Lead day-to-day media relations and external communications, maintain priority media relationships, develop corporate narratives and executive materials, and manage interviews, enquiries and proactive storytelling in line with approval processes.
  • Business Partnership, Internal Communications and Agency Management: Advise business leaders on external positioning and stakeholder engagement; support executive and employee communications where required; and manage agency partners, budgets and deliverables to ensure timely, high-quality execution.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Typically 8 or more years of relevant experience in communications, corporate affairs, public affairs, media relations or government-related stakeholder engagement, preferably in FMCG, food or another regulated consumer-facing industry. Candidates with strong directly relevant experience outside this range will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Taiwan external environment and the ability to support work across Hong Kong, including relevant regulatory, policy, media and stakeholder considerations.
  • Proven experience in reputation and issues management, external communications and stakeholder engagement, with the ability to translate business priorities into practical plans and counsel.
  • Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English, with strong writing, presentation and stakeholder communication skills. Cantonese capability or experience working with Hong Kong stakeholders would be an advantage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working across more than one market or coordinating with regional and global teams.
  • Experience managing communications or public affairs agencies, budgets and external suppliers.
  • Experience preparing executives for media, stakeholder or industry engagements.

12-MONTH SUCCESS MEASURES

  • Established an integrated Taiwan and Hong Kong communications and corporate affairs plan with agreed priorities, stakeholder maps, governance and measures.
  • Built effective working relationships with priority media, industry and government-related stakeholders, with clear engagement objectives and disciplined follow-up.
  • Strengthened issues and crisis readiness through current scenarios, response materials, escalation routes and cross-functional ways of working.
  • Delivered consistent external communications and executive support that reflect approved business narratives and progress through review with limited rework.
  • Demonstrated reliable management of agencies, budgets and deliverables, with regular performance reviews and practical improvement actions.
