Front-End Software Engineer (GUI)

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior GUI Software Engineer to support a company focused on mission-critical satellite communications and Army command-and-control software systems. This position is on-site at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD and requires an active Secret Clearance (TS Preferred). The Senior GUI Software Engineer will support, maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance graphical operator interfaces and software applications within a legacy strategic communications environment. This is a unique opportunity to work on a highly visible system that directly supports critical defense communications operations while helping bridge legacy and modern technologies.

Responsibilities for the Senior GUI Software Engineer include:

• Maintain, modify, and enhance graphical operator displays and front-end applications developed with SL-GMS, DECwindows Motif, and Fortran 77.
• Gather requirements from system operators and stakeholders and translate operational needs into software and display enhancements.
• Analyze, test, troubleshoot, patch, update, and install software while resolving application defects and performing root cause analysis.
• Develop automated interfaces, tools, and test solutions while supporting integration, validation, and deployment activities.
• Create and maintain technical documentation including software design documentation, test plans, test reports, deployment plans, engineering change proposals, and software version descriptions.

Required Qualifications for the Senior GUI Software Engineer include:

• 12+ years of experience within the last 15 years designing, developing, and testing software applications, including GUI, services, and database components.
• Experience with Sherrill-Lubinski Graphical Modeling System (SL-GMS).
• Experience with X Window System / DECwindows Motif.
• Experience with Fortran 77.
• Experience with DEC VAX and OpenVMS environments.
• Experience gathering and analyzing software requirements and performing technical tradeoff analyses.
• Experience developing automated interfaces, test tools, and software integration solutions.
• Experience supporting database development, testing, and maintenance activities.
• Experience creating software and database design documentation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an additional 4 years of relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree.
• Active Secret Clearance (TS/SCI Preferred)

Compensation for the Senior GUI Software Engineer includes:

Salary Range: $130,000 - $190,000
