Training Engineer

Your role
Within the Engineering division of Thales Belgium, the Cybersecurity Engineering discipline is responsible for supporting an end-to-end Secure by Design approach in all products, projects and services provided to customers worldwide, as well as leading the technical aspects of cybersecurity-centric activities.
Inside the discipline, the Training & Education team supports the elaboration, update, delivery and after-action follow-up of in-person, remote and hybrid courses on cryptographic governance and field operations in the military context. Leveraging inputs from the public authorities and the expertise of the Engineering Competence Center, the team transforms complex notions into engaging course material and classroom experiences. The team also takes part to internal awareness and training initiatives, contributing to a mature cybersecurity culture throughout the organization.
The majority of the training delivery activities take place in customer premises, located throughout Belgium and mostly in the Brussels area.
In the future, the Training & Education team will move to the Service Competence Center and expand its scope and grow to support training needs from all business activities of Thales Belgium, including for instance critical information & communication systems and radio devices.
As a dynamic Training Engineer, you will conduct the delivery of the trainings, including practical exercises and final examination where relevant. You will participate to the continuous improvement of the training material. The training duration per week is normally maximum 3 to 4 days. The remaining time is spent on preparation, personal training, improving exercises, organizational meetings, and providing feedback.
Your mission
• Training Delivery: Conduct high-quality training sessions on cryptographic
solutions, covering practical, operational, and regulatory aspects in alignment
with Belgian Defence requirements.
• Material Development: Contribute to the preparation, validation, and
improvement of training materials, exercises, and assessments in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
• Feedback and Assessment: Supervise written exams, provide personalized
feedback, and ensure the progression of learners through adaptive teaching
methods.
• Continuous Improvement: Participate in organizational meetings, personal
training, and the refinement of exercises to enhance training effectiveness.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Training & Education team to support the future expansion of training scope, including critical information &
communication systems and radio devices.
What we are looking for
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related STEM field with 2+ years of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree in another domain with equivalent work experience.
• Provable experience in facilitating training sessions in a technical context.
• 2 years or more of provable field experience with the design, usage and/or
teaching of cryptography and/or cybersecurity solutions. Some desirable topics include:
o Symmetric and asymmetric encryption algorithms (DES, AES…).
o Key management concepts (key management infrastructure, PKI, HSM,
etc.).
o Secure communication protocols (IPsec, SSL/TLS, SSH, VPN, etc.).
o Mastering best practices for securing network architectures.
• The following extra qualifications are valuable assets:
o Familiarity with the defense ecosystem, through operational experience
and/or design and implementation.
o Relevant industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or GSEC.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Fluency in English is mandatory.
• Fluency in French and/or Dutch is required, and bilingualism is a strong asset.
