JOB DESCRIPTION: SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER
Wofford College welcomes applications for a Social Media Manager position. The social media manager is a full-time, exempt position that works with all administrative staff and faculty departments. The position directly reports to the vice president for marketing and communications. The Office of Marketing and Communications oversees the college’s marketing and communication strategies and is responsible for all aspects of creative services and photography; digital messaging (web, video and social media); features and publications; internal, external and crisis communications; marketing and special projects.
Typical work performance is approximately 37.5 hours/week. Depending on activities and special events, evening and weekend hours may be required at times; otherwise, the normal work schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The social media manager is responsible for promoting the college’s brand through social media strategy, content creation, execution and analytics. Other primary responsibilities include:
- Expansion of Wofford’s brand through social media: Curating, creating and posting content or supervising the curation, creation and posting of content.
- In collaboration with Team OMC, the creation and maintenance of a cohesive social presence for the college that builds lasting relationships with various constituents.
- Understanding audiences and the college’s brand and developing a social media strategy for each platform.
- Identifying and sharing emerging social media outlets, trends and tactics.
- Monitoring and recommending strategies for response to social media sentiment, proactively considering brand risk in the area of social media.
- Analyzing performance of ongoing social media strategy.
- Identifying, following, monitoring and interacting with online influencers.
- Serving as the college’s educator and advisor to other departments who maintain a social media presence, including the Office of Philanthropy + Engagement and Athletics.
- Collaboration with Admission on their digital marketing initiatives, including serving as liaison to Niche, College Board, etc.
- Participation and service in assigned, elected or appointed committees or service roles across the Wofford community.
- Attendance at trainings, seminars or conferences as required. Stay abreast of current developments and trends for continued professional development.
- Perform other duties or related tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor degree and minimally one year of experience in social media brand management and marketing.
The social media manager will have excellent communications skills and will be comfortable creating, editing and posting content across social media platforms, this includes writing, editing and publishing stories. The social media manager will have experience in planning, organizing and analyzing effective social marketing campaigns. Punctual attendance, expectations to learn quickly and thrive in a collaborative setting, along with the flexibility to adapt and provide other assistance to Team OMC and Wofford College as necessary, will be important for success in this role. A background in art, graphics, photography, writing and video are assets.
