JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Faculty-Led Programs maintains expertise in faculty-led program design and implementation, resource stewardship, internal database systems, and promotion of faculty-led study abroad. The AD is responsible for the development and implementation of an assigned portfolio of programs and provides a full range of advising services to students.

The Assistant Director must be able to initiate, develop, and sustain positive relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. Program development duties include developing and maintaining all aspects of faculty-led programs including budgeting, negotiating with third-party vendors, and assessing overall program quality. Student advising duties include identifying academically appropriate programs, knowledge of financial and withdrawal policies, building cross-cultural awareness, and health and safety support.

This position may be required to travel to conduct periodic site visits and to attend, facilitate, and/or present at meetings or conferences domestically and internationally. Some evening and weekend hours to lead events will be required to accommodate Northeastern students and faculty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge in advising techniques for study abroad programs in a higher education setting. Understanding of the Forum on Education Abroad’s standards and ethics. Effective oral and written communication to positively engage people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Effective management and prioritization skills. Effective organizational, project management, administrative, and computer skills.  Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills with proven ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines. Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to interact with global program representatives, faculty, and students in a highly professional manner with an understanding of protocol and confidentiality. Ability to effectively represent the University to outside institutions and universities. Knowledge and skills required for this position are typically acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree required (Master’s degree preferred) with previous experience studying or living abroad.Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office software required. History of creativity in finding solutions to programmatic challenges while proposing initiatives to move GEO toward its goals and objective. Familiarity with Salesforce, Terra Dotta, and student record systems (e.g., Banner) preferred.  Ability and willingness to work some evening and/or weekend events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

1) Faculty-Led Program Development:

Provide end-to-end support for an assigned portfolio of faculty in the proposal, design, and implementation stages; Communicate professionally and effectively with internal stakeholders, external partners, and with cross-functional teams to arrive at mutually agreeable and productive solutions; Assist faculty in creating effective marketing and recruitment strategies; Maintain accountability for budgeting with the Finance & Operations team.

2) Student Advising:

Maintain regional expertise, cultural proficiency, and programmatic knowledge in an assigned portfolio of faculty-led global experiences; Handle a high volume of student communication and be able to provide direction and answers, as necessary; Maintain general knowledge of financial policies and processes to educate and advise students on how to finance their global experience; Advise students on student application process, monitor progress toward completing applications, changing in status, withdrawals, etc.; Conduct pre-departure orientations and re-entry programming. Connect outgoing students with current or past exchange students to create meaningful connections prior to and while abroad.

3) Administrative Duties:

Assist in the management of the Terra Dotta application system, troubleshooting student and faculty issues as they arise; Provide on-campus customer service representation on a rotating basis; Serve in the on-call emergency response rotation.

Expected Hiring Range:

$53,615.00 - $75,728.75

With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
