Paint Prep

Description

 The Paint Prep is responsible for preparing metal components and assemblies for painting by grinding, sanding, deburring, and inspecting surfaces to ensure proper finish quality. This role supports production operations by ensuring all parts meet paint-readiness standards while maintaining safety, efficiency, and quality in a manufacturing environment. 

• Prepare metal parts and assemblies for painting through grinding, sanding, and deburring.
• Operate hand tools and grinders to remove surface imperfections and sharp edges.
• Inspect surfaces to ensure materials meet paint-readiness and quality standards.
• Identify materials and follow work instructions, drawings, and specifications accurately.
• Move parts and materials on and off machinery and throughout the facility as required.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area prior to paint operations.
• Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies.
• Work independently or as part of a team to meet production schedules.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by management. 

Requirements

• Background check and pre-employment drug screening required.
• One to two years of related experience and/or on-the-job training preferred.
• Ability to operate grinders and basic hand tools.
• Strong attention to detail with good eye/hand coordination.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to solve basic mathematical equations. 
• Ability to read, interpret, and accurately use a ruler or tape measure for measurements required in production tasks.
• Ability to interpret work instructions, specifications, and drawings.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and apply common-sense problem solving.
• Reliable attendance and willingness to meet overtime demands as required.

• Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods while working on non-forgiving surfaces such as concrete, wood, metal, or fiberglass platforms.
• Ability to navigate inclines, ramps, stairs, uneven ground, and walkways throughout production areas.
• Ability to reach, bend, crouch, stoop, climb, and balance as tasks require.
• Ability to use hands and arms for handling tools, operating equipment, grasping materials, performing repetitive motions, and maintaining manual dexterity.
• Ability to operate or work near machinery and mechanical components.
• Ability to maintain visual acuity required for reading measurements, inspecting materials, reviewing documents, and operating tools or equipment safely.
• Employees are expected to apply proper ergonomic practices and lifting techniques. Job-specific material handling requirements may vary by department.  

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to loud noise, dust, airborne particles, and production byproducts, all within OSHA-permissible exposure limits. Employees work around grinders, hand tools, machinery, forklifts, and active production lines on concrete floors, ramps, inclines, and uneven surfaces. Some tasks may occur outdoors or between buildings depending on operational needs. Required PPE must be worn as designated. Safety training is provided in accordance with OSHA regulations, company policy, and industry standards, and employees are expected to follow all safety and material-handling procedures.
