In this leadership role, you’ll serve as a strategic partner to Research, Innovation and Education (RIE) leadership and stakeholders, guiding space, facility and operational strategies across the RIE portfolio. Your work will help shape long-term planning, capital investments, and infrastructure priorities while ensuring facilities and services effectively support the organization’s evolving needs. 

You’ll lead integrated strategies for space planning, governance, capital planning, risk mitigation and operational continuity, while identifying opportunities to strengthen performance and improve how RIE spaces and resources are managed. Through strategic planning and cross-functional collaboration, you’ll help create an environment that supports research, innovation and education across Cleveland Clinic. 

A caregiver in this position works days, 8:00am—5:00pm. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Building Operations & Facilities Partnership 

• Provide strategic oversight and enterprise representation for RIE buildings, infrastructure, and operational services.   

• Serve as the primary RIE liaison to Building Plus + Design, Facilities, and service providers.   

• Advocate for RIE priorities in facilities, maintenance, capital planning, and infrastructure decisions.   

• Drive resolution of complex operational issues and advises leadership on risks, service gaps, and improvement opportunities. 

Capital Projects & Operational Readiness   

• Provide strategic oversight of renovations, capital projects, space conversions, moves, and occupancy transitions. 

• Translate RIE priorities into space, infrastructure, and operational requirements. 

• Oversee project prioritization, design review, readiness, transitions, and post-occupancy performance.   

• Lead cross-functional continuity and contingency planning for outages, emergencies, and other operational disruptions. 

Space Strategy & Allocation 

• Lead long-term space strategy aligned with RIE priorities, growth, research needs, innovation, education, and available resources. 

• Partner with RIE leadership and space governance committees to establish allocation principles and decision-making processes. 

• Oversee space planning, utilization, capacity, vacancy, assignments, consolidations, relocations, and repurposing. 

• Maintain accurate space data and leads periodic portfolio reviews to optimize the use of RIE space and infrastructure. 

Performance, Analytics & Resource Stewardship 

• Establish performance measures and reporting for space, facilities, projects, service delivery, and operational risk. 

• Use data to identify trends, capacity constraints, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities. 

• Partner with RIE leadership on budgeting, forecasting, resource allocation, and capital investment priorities. 

• Ensure responsible stewardship of resources and alignment with RIE strategic priorities. 

People Leadership 

• Provide leadership for a high-performing team responsible for RIE space, infrastructure, and operational services. 

• Establish priorities, operating models, performance expectations, and resource requirements. 

• Develop team capability through recruitment, coaching, performance management, professional development, and succession planning. 

• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, service excellence, and continuous improvement. 

• Other duties as assigned. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Bachelor's Degree in business administration, engineering or related field 

• Completion of apprenticeship trade/vocational school or knowledge obtained through 4 years of on-the-job training experience in the appropriate area of responsibility 

• An additional 4 years of experience in research or healthcare facilities management may substitute degree requirement 

• Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) or Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) or Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) or similar certification is required or ability to attain within (12) twelve months from date of hire 

• 6 years of experience in research or healthcare facilities management 

• 3 years of previous supervisory or managerial experience or demonstration of formal education in business management 

• Working knowledge of regulatory codes as applied in healthcare research environments 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Experience with MS Office, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and programs associated for tracking with a CMMS system 

• Research or healthcare and multi-site facilities management experience 

• Project management experience 

• Building, design & facilities experience 
   

Physical Requirements:

• Typical physical demands require full body motion including ability to perform work while bending, stooping, stretching, climbing ladders;
  requires dexterity and strength sufficient to operate required tools and machinery; typically required to lift and carry machinery and/or
  equipment weighing 25 to 100 lbs. and/or assist with lifting weights exceeding 100 lbs.
• Requires color acuity sufficient to distinguish color coded wiring and piping.
