Description
Sony Music Entertainment is currently looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to join our Finance team. You will be looking after our Malaysia and Singapore entities. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will be an integral member of the Sony Music Finance team and will be responsible for ensuring all reporting completed accurately and on time.
What you'll do
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
- Manage end-to-end accounts payable processes, including purchase requests, purchase orders, supplier invoice verification, three-way matching, invoice processing, and payment workflows in accordance with company policies and approval requirements.
- Review payment proposals prepared by shared services teams and ensure payment instructions are accurate and properly approved.
- Manage accounts receivable activities including client invoicing, collections follow-up, cash application, receipting, and resolution of billing discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate supplier and customer master data, supporting documentation, and respond to internal and external stakeholder enquiries in a timely manner.
General Ledger, Financial Close & Reporting
- Prepare and post month-end journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, reclassifications, provisions, and other accounting adjustments.
- Perform monthly balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations, including bank accounts, accounts payable, receivables, accruals, provisions, and other assigned accounts, ensuring timely investigation and resolution of outstanding items.
- Prepare management accounts and support the interface between local statutory ledgers and corporate reporting ledgers, including US GAAP reporting requirements.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closing activities, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded within reporting deadlines.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation to support financial integrity, audit readiness, and compliance with US GAAP, IFRS, and company accounting policies.
Financial Planning & Business Support
- Support monthly forecasting and annual budgeting processes using global reporting and planning tools.
- Assist in financial analysis and provide insights to support business decision-making and operational planning.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, highlighting key variances and trends to stakeholders.
Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Assist with tax compliance activities across Singapore and Malaysia, ensuring timely and accurate submission of required tax filings and reporting obligations.
- Support periodic withholding tax filings, VAT/GST filings, annual corporate income tax returns, and other statutory tax submissions in accordance with local regulations.
- Prepare and coordinate group tax reporting packages, including information required for corporate tax consolidation and global reporting requirements.
- Assist with non-resident withholding tax (NRWT) compliance, including review of applicable requirements, supporting documentation, and timely submission of filings.
- Maintain accurate tax records and supporting documentation while liaising with internal stakeholders, external tax advisors, and tax authorities to resolve queries and ensure compliance.
Audit, Governance & Internal Controls
- Support year-end statutory audits by preparing audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, tax requirements, and regulatory obligations.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, strengthen controls, and enhance operational efficiency.
Royalty & Special Projects
- Prepare royalty statements and financial reporting for joint venture deals, licensing arrangements, and other commercial agreements.
- Support finance transformation initiatives, process improvement projects, and other ad hoc assignments as required.

Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of accounts payable, general ledger, reconciliation processes, and financial close activities.
- Detail-oriented and process-driven with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate discrepancies and maintain financial accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple entities, currencies, and deadlines while working effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and finance teams.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative finance team environment.
Education and Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business, Economics, or a related discipline, with CA/CPA qualification or progress towards professional qualification preferred.
- 5 years of experience in accounts payable, general ledger accounting, financial accounting, or a similar finance operations role within a multinational or fast-paced environment.
- Hands-on experience in invoice processing, purchase order workflows, payment runs, journal entries, month-end closing, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Experience with SAP ERP, Business Warehouse (BW), or other financial systems is preferred, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting processes, and internal controls, with experience managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
