About this Role:
We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager / Resident Engineer to support California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) construction projects in Ventura County. The successful candidate will provide construction management, field inspection, contract administration, and technical oversight to ensure projects are constructed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Caltrans plans, specifications, standards, and contract requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide construction management and field oversight for Caltrans transportation projects
- Perform and/or oversee daily construction inspection and documentation
- Interpret and enforce Caltrans Standard Specifications, Special Provisions, plans, and applicable contract requirements
- Monitor contractor activities, construction progress, quality, schedule, and compliance
- Review submittals, RFIs, change orders, time impacts, payment quantities, and project documentation
- Coordinate with Caltrans personnel, contractors, subcontractors, utility companies, and other project stakeholders
- Identify and resolve construction issues and provide technically sound recommendations
- Support project meetings, progress reporting, claims avoidance, and contract administration
- Ensure compliance with Caltrans safety, quality, environmental, and traffic-control requirements
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of Caltrans-related construction experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of roadway construction practices, specifications, and procedures
- Experience with roadway, highway, bridge, or other transportation infrastructure projects
Preferred:
- California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred
- Experience serving as a Resident Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, or Lead Inspector on Caltrans projects
- Experience with Caltrans construction contract administration, change orders, claims, CPM scheduling, and project documentation
- Familiarity with Caltrans Construction Manual, Standard Specifications, Construction Manual procedures, and related construction guidance
Additional Requirements / Skills / Working Hours / Compensation Range
- Ability to travel to Ventura County project sites as required
- Must be able to pass a background check and, where applicable, a drug screening in accordance with client and project requirements
