Mental Health Counseling Intern

Sylvain Counseling Services offers a master's-level field experience opportunity for students pursuing graduate education in counseling or a related behavioral health discipline. This unpaid placement provides practical experience in a professional mental health setting while allowing students to apply their academic training through supervised work with clients and families.

The placement is designed to support students completing required practicum and internship hours as part of their graduate program.

Internship Details

• Unpaid, master's-level field placement
• Academic practicum and internship hours may be completed at the site based on the student's program requirements
• Opportunities to provide supervised master's-level services
• Weekly site supervision provided in accordance with field placement requirements
• Flexible scheduling coordinated around academic and placement requirements with hybrid hours (remote and in-person)

Field Experience Requirements

Students completing the full practicum and internship sequence may have requirements that include:

• Practicum: 100 total hours, including 15 hours of faculty group supervision, 10 hours of site supervision, and 40 direct hours providing master's-level services.
• Internship I: 15 hours of faculty group supervision and 10 hours of site supervision, with hours actively accruing toward the subsequent internship requirement.
• Internship II: 600 total hours, including 15 hours of faculty group supervision, 10 hours of site supervision, and 240 direct hours providing master's-level services.
• Group counseling: 10 total group counseling hours across the practicum and internship sequence.

Students are expected to remain active at their placement and consistently document hours throughout the field experience.
