ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities.  We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better.  It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

Support Worker – Casual

Bridge House – Sobering Up Unit (WA)

SCHADS Level 3

Why this role matters

Every shift you work at Bridge House has the power to change someone’s day — and sometimes their life. Our Sobering Up Unit supports people at their most vulnerable, offering safety, dignity and calm when they need it most. As a Support Worker, you become a steady, compassionate presence in moments that truly matter. If you’re someone who shows up with heart, steadiness and respect, this is a place where your impact is felt immediately.

About the role

As a casual Support Worker, you will support participants under the influence of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) by monitoring their wellbeing, responding to immediate needs, and maintaining a safe, structured and caring environment. You will conduct regular checks, support participants through withdrawal, manage challenging behaviours with confidence and empathy, and ensure clear communication and documentation across the team. This is a 24‑hour service where your calm, grounded presence makes a real difference.

This casual position is based at the Bridge House Sobering Up Unit, reporting to the Team Leader Support Services. Pay is in accordance with a SCHADS Level 3. Shifts are negotiated based on business needs and staff availability.

How you will make an impact

  • Provide safe, trauma‑informed support to participants in the Sobering Up Unit

  • Monitor wellbeing through regular checks and observations

  • Respond confidently to challenging or high‑risk situations

  • Support participants through AOD withdrawal and document progress

  • Maintain safety, security and evacuation protocols

  • Promote TSA activities and support engagement with chaplaincy

  • Keep accurate records, shift notes and incident reports

  • Bring steadiness, compassion and professionalism to every shift

What you will bring

  • Certificate IV in Community Services, AOD or Mental Health (or equivalent experience)

  • Understanding of AOD types, effects and withdrawal processes

  • Experience supporting people with complex needs is highly regarded

  • Current WA driver’s licence

  • Current First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain)

  • Ability to work across a 24‑hour roster including nights, weekends and public holidays

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure

  • Commitment to culturally safe, inclusive and person‑centred practice

What we offer

  • NFP salary packaging benefits (up to $15,900 tax free) and Entertainment Benefit ($2,650 tax free)

  • Flexible working arrangements that support balance, wellbeing and life outside of work

  • Employee Assistance Program – confidential counselling service for you and your family

  • Financial, retail and lifestyle discounts

  • Discounted health and fitness programs through Fitness Passport

  • Up to 5 days paid leave per year to support a Salvation Army program or activity

  • A supportive, inclusive culture where you’re valued, encouraged and surrounded by passionate team members who care about the work as much as you do

How to apply

If you’re someone who brings steadiness, empathy and a genuine desire to support people through vulnerable moments, we’d love to hear from you. Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience and interest in the role.

Applications will close as soon as a suitable candidate is secured.
