PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, headquartered in Andalusia, AL, is a generation and transmission (G&T) electric cooperative with 22 distribution members - 18 electric distribution systems and four municipal electric systems - in Alabama and northwest Florida. PowerSouth's member systems provide power to end-use consumers across 51 counties in Alabama and 10 counties in Florida.

JOB SUMMARY & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The Communications Specialist II is responsible for assisting the Public Relations Supervisor in carrying out PowerSouth's communications projects and initiatives in order to project and maintain a positive public image through means including, but not limited to: cultivating and upholding strong relationships with PowerSouth employees, distribution members, the media, and PowerSouth community organizations; assisting with aspects of PowerSouth's internal and external publications using both traditional and emerging technologies; various writing assignments (i.e., speechwriting and technical writing); and various other communications duties. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a closely related field. The incumbent should have demonstrable hands-on skills such as content organization, writing, editing, layout, design and technical skills. Competency in Adobe Creative Suite as well as excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, are required. Demonstrated experience in internal communications, audience engagement, and effective storytelling is preferred.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in planning, developing and implementing PowerSouth's total communications program, including PowerLines, newsletters, brochures, digital content/media, PowerSouth's corporate website, and other corporate communications needs.
- Provides support, exchanges information and maintains close contact with PowerSouth employees, distribution members, media, and other relevant public community organizations to foster positive work relationships and enhance PowerSouth's image.
- Assists with planning/executing tours of PowerSouth facilities and with implementation of events with various community organizations, nurturing the strong bonds and public image in our community.
- Responsible for ensuring the success of PowerSouth by promoting teamwork, group goals and objectives, properly communicating and cooperating within the PowerSouth organization and with member systems as well as demonstrating and promoting standards of respect and dignity, accountability, integrity, and trustworthiness.
