About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Grade 1 Scientist to join the Cardiothoracic and Surgical Oncology Research team at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. In this role, you will support and coordinate clinical research activities across Cardiothoracic and Surgical Oncology, with opportunities to contribute to research across Breast, Plastics and Urology. Working closely with investigators, clinicians, research staff, patients, sponsors and regulatory bodies, you will support the delivery of clinical trials from patient screening and recruitment through to ongoing trial participation, data collection and study documentation. You will ensure research activities are conducted in accordance with approved study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ethical and regulatory requirements, while maintaining high standards of patient safety, confidentiality and data integrity. Classification: Grade 1 Scientist RX1 - RX7 ($63,674.00 - $91,785.20 per annum).

Your Responsibilities

You will:

• Support the coordination and day-to-day conduct of clinical trials across Cardiothoracic and Surgical Oncology

• Assist with patient screening, recruitment, informed consent and ongoing trial participation

• Maintain accurate and timely patient, trial, laboratory and regulatory documentation

• Coordinate the collection, processing and management of research specimens and study data

• Prepare and manage ethics and governance submissions, amendments and associated documentation

• Liaise with patients, investigators, sponsors, Human Research Ethics Committees (HREC), Governance and other internal and external stakeholders

• Support safety reporting and ensure trial activities comply with approved protocols, GCP and relevant ethical and regulatory requirements

• Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure the integrity and quality of clinical research data

• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support safe, high-quality clinical research

Your Contribution

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Science, Health Science or a related discipline

• An interest in, or experience within, clinical research or clinical trials

• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate documentation and manage competing priorities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with patients, clinicians, researchers and external stakeholders

• An understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and clinical research governance requirements, or a willingness to develop this knowledge

• A current National Criminal History Check, or willingness to obtain one

About the Cardiothoracic and Surgical Oncology Research Team

The Cardiothoracic and Surgical Oncology Research team supports the delivery of clinical research across a range of surgical specialties, including Cardiothoracic and Surgical Oncology, with research activities also extending across Breast, Plastics and Urology. Working collaboratively with doctors, nurses, researchers and other members of the multidisciplinary team, the department supports the safe and effective conduct of clinical trials in accordance with Good Clinical Practice and relevant ethical and regulatory standards. Through high-quality clinical research, the team contributes to advancing knowledge, improving treatment and supporting best-practice patient care.
